What a deal! *AND* A diorama idea

Well, I've had the urge to build one of my Star Wars kits pretty badly, and I happen to have a simple ERTL 8" X-Wing (Snap-Tite) model, so I contemplated using it for a Dio. I've never made one before, so I wanted to keep it simple.

I'm planning on mocking up a little flightline/apron area, with some AGE equipment hooked up to the X-Wing. I was thinking of adding one of the hose hookups you see in ANH, in the Massassi Temple hangar (refueling machinery, maybe?) connected to the X-Wing. Also, I wanted to open up a panel and add a control box with conduit running to it in a few different places. Other mods to the X-Wing would be a rebuilt cockpit, since I want to display the T-65 with the canopy open and somewhat corrected landing gear. Of course the astromech driod socket would be left vacant, who'd leave their droid all by themselves? I'd have mine making me toast... or something. Big Smile [:D]

While looking for detailed cockpit info on the X-Wings tonight, I decided to look around for the Cross Sections book I'd looked in before and found this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8322749890&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Not a bad deal for $8.20 shipped. Now I don't have to worry too much about reference info during the build! What to do with the second book?

Any ideas I might be able to add to this Dio?

Sounds like a great idea. Since this is your first dio - dont worry about rushing it - it will get to you after awhile heheh.

You could go and buy some starwars action figures. Like r2d2 and c3p0 and a xwing pilot. They might be the same scale but you might how they look in the scene. If you can watch "A New Hope" again during those scenes in the hanger take notes.

Good luck.

I figured the rough scale of the X-Wing, and it's around 1/62 or so. Unfortunately the action figures are too big and I don't know of any figures that are made in that scale. I'll try to watch ANH tonight (work is going to be slow) and maybe get some screencaps of the equipment in the temple. Scratching figures are waaaay outta my league, so I guess this Dio might have to be vacant. It's too bad, since it won't feel very dynamic that way.

Check the Micromachines playsets that came out a few years ago. I don't have one handy to measure, but they come out to be around 1/72 or more probably HO scale (1/87) which is a little closer than some of the other options. I also thought the snap X-wing and the Millenium Falcon were both 1/72, because I thought about doing a dio with them both at one time, but couldn't say for sure one way or the other.
