thanks guys glad you like it....Colin..m8.. to be honest you could i suppose call the finish a "happy.accident".... after watching the movies..i decided that the alien had a blueish tinge.rather like a gloss panzer grey...i gave it a white undercoat...then several coats of semi gloss black from a aerosol.can..the first drybrushing was with gunmetal,grey..then the mid tones with oily steel.after a couple of days curing i applied a thin misting of cobalt blue shellack based ink this was taken up by the mettalic paint on the alien..on the gunmetal it's effect was to add depth and it gave the model a crysalis carapace type look.. the effect on the highlights were that the ink soaked into the pigment...dark at the base of the colour to almost transparent at the peaks.. ink was applied several time sover several days[shellack needs drying time]..then highlights with were drybrushed on with polished steel... and a very thin coating of the cobalt ink was touched into them with a fine brush..now for the accident part........when the model had properly dried..[a week]...i gave it a really good soak with future....after shaking off the excess i started to dry it off with a hairdrier.. and the ink and the future created an oilslick effect on the model...WOW...??? i'll take some close up shots and see if its visible, i gave it another couple of coats with future and i'm ,yet to give it a final polishing, to impart the "wet look" associated with the beastie.. not a bad result all in all .. i came accross the alien figure by halcyon from the third movie, in a little shop in dundee.
but he wants £20.00 for it..and seeing as i bought this one for £9.99 .i think i'll wait till he has a sale...i have a nice finish in mind for it, a bronze /gold marble effect..in fact i might just bite the bullet and buy it...i need to see if i can replicate the oil slick effect..and the kit has a great pose.....
REGARDS...D....
