Master Grade Rick Dom

Hey All,

I figured I would toss a couple of pics of the first real Gundam Model I built about a year ago. I built a couple of SDs as a joke with my friends but it worked on getting me into the bigger stuff.

Pretty much this is out of the box. 90% of the model is painted. I left the purple armor un painted to give it more of a sheen without having to go glossy. I was gonna weather it and line it, but it looked too good to mess with any further.

Let me know what you think.

Nice work. Gundams aren't something I built but, they are a huge chunk of 1/144 Sci-Fi.
I'm starting to add the 1/144 Gundams to the 1/144 census and have no idea about them. Any other subject I have an idea what info I'm looking for online. I'm trying to find someone with enough knowledge in the area to help fill in the blanks. The little I've got is off the boxes at Walmart. So far I've got-

Mobile Suit Gundam-MS-09RII Rick Dom II
Bandai (#11099)- ??cm wide, ?? cm tall; ?? plastic pieces, ? clear pieces; Skill 3; decals:??

Mobile Suit Gundam-RX-78NT1 Gundam NT-1
Bandai (#11256)- ??cm wide, ?? cm tall; ?? plastic pieces, ? clear pieces; Skill 3; decals:??

Mobile Suit Gundam-??-???? Kampfer
Bandai (#?????)- ??cm wide, ?? cm tall; ?? plastic pieces, ? clear pieces; Skill 3; decals:??

Mobile Suit Gundam-??-???? GELGOOGS
Bandai (#?????)- ??cm wide, ?? cm tall; ?? plastic pieces, ? clear pieces; Skill 3; decals:??

Thanks to everyone!

don't know the details but the one suggestion i can give you is DON'T build those kits. Those are the 1/144 ones made after 0080 War in the Pocket short series came out. The mold and the fitment are sub-par compared to the newer HGUC kits. By the new the new HGUC series has a new Rick Dom, NT-1 alex and the Gelgoog (Marine version used by Shima in UC 0083).

If you're a relatively seasoned modeler, start working on Master Grade kits if you'd like to be somewhat satisfied by the end result. I'm not trying to take away from the High Grade kits, but it's kinda like the difference between a Revell and Tamiya auto model. Both can be made nice, but the Tamiyas always end up... nicer.

Look at Amazon.com and see if they've got the Master Grade models on sale, I got my two kits for SUPER cheap a little over a month ago.

Edit: Yup, they're still on sale, here's the two I've purchased:
Ez8
Kampfer

Fingerz,

Great looking factory-fresh Dom. Perfect finish.

Cassibill, though there are better Gundam kits available, what you have would be good start with use to develop build and finishing techniques.

I’m relatively new to Gundam modeling and I found that this persons site to be one of my favorites to look at for inspiration and a source of techniques:

I plan on using his article for LED illumination of my Zaku II’s eye.

I don't worry about kit quality. I end up over doing so why pick a better kit when I just redo half of it anyway.
