I have to go along with Dan on this too.........I don't really want to use this reference but...................Columbia is a perfect example, there would quite frankly be very little left after the atmospheric conditions have acted upon it. also what would be left would most probably be scattered in a debris field not a crashed hulk.. Any other atmosphere capable craft would do much better IMHO. With that aside, I think it would make an INTERESTING dio to say the least. Looks very cool in the mids eye. As a side note you might consider crashing it on a "lifeless moon or other dead form"(sorry, compulsive Trek reference) in this case you will have the bulk of the superstructure to work with but not a whole lot in the way of a crash and burn thing.

About that Star Destroyer having crashed.... now, I'm not an expert on Star Wars, not on aerodynamics and other fysics stuff, but those SD were like really huge weren't they ?

Well in my opinion, on a planet with an atmosphere it would be enough to model a big black hole in the dirt, and drop some glittering stuff over it... voila your crashed Star Destroyer.
What I meen to say, do you remember the size of the pieces Skylab that were salvaged ? Now that SD is maybe a million times bigger and heavier, there is no way that you would find a recognizable wreck.

Freestyle all the way. I know this sounds a bit amateur (oh, wait...that's what I am), but instead of building each individual level of the Destroyer, I'm just gonna fill the hull with super low-expansion foam, and stick broken bulkheads jutting out from the hull breach, then paint the levels and carve them out to the best of my ability.

Also....another idea. You know how when a car manufacturer comes out with a new design, they unveil it on a raised platform at a car show? Well, how about that......with a TIE Fighter, when Sienar Fleet Systems "unveiled" it at say, an Imperial recruitment/propaganda rally. How about it?

Yeah, that sounds fine. It's more or less what I imagined.

Argh. I just felt an urge to build a wasted ATS, but already have two started but unfinished models.

And when it stopped moving, the nose kind stopped before the rest of it, breaking it's "nose". You know what I mean?

You realize the EMP effect was delivered by a huge electrical discharge from a cannon, right? Tongue [:P]

I'd also feel sorry for the delayed escape pod evacuees if they eject after they crash... Big Smile [:D]

This is what I think it should look like: imagine a really big plane being hit by an EMP: There would not be major scorching (only burnt circuits) but the damage would come from it crashing into the ground. There could be small scape pods lying around.
The other idea is also good. I imagine an X-wing doing a belly landing, scorching the under surfaces and then crashing with some structure and loosing it's wing from one side.

I like your ideas. Nothing wrong with creative modeling, I say! I'm thinking the impact of the Ion Cannon would be more scorching and no actual penetration as what I remember of the Ion Cannons is that they act like a fired EMP effect, knocking systems/electronics offline. Now, there's nothing saying that an Ion shot wouldn't cause secondary explosions from fuel/power conduits, but the damage would have to show that they came from the inside, ripping its way out.

Whaddya think?

I am a fan of Star Wars, and models, so I'm a major fan of Star Wars models. However, I don't like to build things the way they're supposed to be built (as funny as this sounds). For example, I bought the EMT Star Destroyer and instead of placing it on the clear stand that it came with.... I had a cool idea. Have the Star Destroyer crashed on Hoth, after it was hit with the Echo Base Ion cannon. I plan to have it put in a glass didplay case and labeled with the title "First Catch of The Day" . Star wars fans will know what this means .I have pancaked the bottom with a small propane torch and I'm starting on the major hull breach. My next Idea is also out of the box...... to have an X- Wing crashed on the surface of the first Death Star. Not obliterated, just crashed. Thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.
