I concur this movie was great. I am a real miser, so plunking down 9 bucks for a movie, but this was worth every penny.

Imagine a witty signature right .....here....

Dan,
Where have you been? Under a rock?
OK, forget that, plenty of people seemed not to have heard of it. It is a continuation of a TV series that aired on Fox, which promptly screwed it up. Only lasted 11 episodes as the show "Firefly". The show has a pretty good following (the DVD set with 3 unaired episodes has been in the Amazon top 10 since its release over a year ago) which has lead to a revival by Joss Whedan.
It ties up a lot of loose ends from the series but is also a good show on its own (again, based on comments by those who never saw the series but have since bought the DVD set after seeing the movie).
Sum it up it is kind of a SciFi Western. The crew of the Serenity (a Firefly class transport) is trying to stay ahead of the Alliance (government of Central Planets). Yeah, that sums it up.
Here is a link for more info.

Oh, yeah,
Go see the movie. You will be glad you did.

At the risk of sounding like a noob, what is Serenity about ? I can't help it, I've just never heard of it before.

I saw the movie last weekend, great action adventure flick, google serenity and go the the web site, from there click on join the browncoats icon, the browncoats web site is pretty good, if you want a good discussion on anything from politics to needle point it's in there. I hope they come out with a good sized kit of serenity, it would also be fun to kitbash a reaver ship, they are all very different and the more cobbled the better.

I just saw it last night. It wasn't too bad.

The ship I wanted to model was the Alliance's lead ship. Hopefully a series of Serenity ships will be produced someday (at a reasonable price)

Really?!? If that's the case, it'll be the first Sci-Fi kit I have ever considered making (no offense to you SF peeps), when Serenity was going through the Reevers (sp?) on their way to the dead planet they tracked via the weak homing signal, it was the first time I considered doing a fictional space craft. I think it was the blood red camo paint scheme and the skeletons strapped to the hull that piqued my interest...suddenly, right there in the theater, I was trying to remember who made model skeleton kits!

if you can't wait, you can always grab a 20mm flak 38 in 35th or 72nd scale and with the right base and figure, get a scene from the movie.

I'm with Philp: go see it. Very intense, very 'realistic' . An excellent movie, I'll hopefully see it again before it hits the dollar theatre.

Ok,
Great Story, Great effects and Joss does his usual character developement (if you were fans of Buffy and/or Angel you get my drift).

Reading the 3 comics that came out just before the movie will help you fans of the show understand what has happened since the last episode. If you didn't watch the tv show (what is wrong with you), I think you can still pick up on most of what is going on.

Lots of plot lines get tied up so that is nice but one of the organizers said he spoke with a Universal rep who told him if the movie makes at least $80Million, they guarantee 2 more sequels.

As for the "freakshow", not sure where you have been but the "freeks" are the ones to thank for this movie hitting the theater. I have not seen so much fan and fan-atic support for a cancelled show ever. The organizers are filming a documentary named "Done the Impossible" that deals with how the fans are responsible for getting the cast back together and continuing the story. My son and I ended up first in line so we may even get in the doc. Now, I didn't wear a browncoat but a few did and there were several "Companions" in the audience. 13 people participated in the costume contest (no lightsabre battles in the line), there was a raffle for several film related items, we saw clips of the shows and tidbits of info (poll on who is the sexist lady in the crew, Kaylee won by the way), etc keep the crowd entertained until the witching hour struck and the ship hit atmo as they say.
Already see one potential dio idea in 35th scale and wish someone would make the ship as a kit.

Bottom line... Go see the movie. Several times.

I hope to go sometime next week, hopefully it is good even though I have very little clue what it is about.

However, I have to get this freak story out: I was watching the Brewer game yesterday, and a guy in the crowd had the full Stormtrooper costume on, with a cheesehead too....

We're going to see it tomorrow night.

Isn't a costume contest for Firefly just going to wind up looking like a bunch old-west re-enactors though?

My son and I are attending a special midnight screening of the new movie tonight. They are having a costume contest before the show so should be interesting.
