Anyone collect Warhammer

I collect Games Workshop's Lord Of The Rings figures and Rackham/Confrontation miniatures.

The Rackham stuff is superb!!!

I have been collecting and painting warhammer minatures for over 20yrs.I have an orc&goblin army,about 250-350 figs.I also have the startings of a wood elf army,space marine army,an I don't even know how many misc. types of figs.(my dragons keep watching me Ithink they're hungry!)And my favorite chaos army.Right now I'm finishing my40k chaosmarines and trying to find room for the fanatsy chaos.They take up a whole bookshelf now 6'. And i keep buying more. blood for the blood god!

Lots of 40K stuff. a good amount of a space marine army. got about 4 squads of figures for the grey knights and inquisitors. and got the basic game for the fantasy game but cant really call it collecting since the only extra ones i got were the metal black orcs and an orc shaman.

Used to play 40k and fantasy -- got sick of the constant rules changes and the "flavour of the month" marketting/rules writing. And the price just keeps on going up and up and up for the same product. And a lot of the new stuff has way too much ornamentation on it. Not everyone needs to be hauling around 50 kilos of skulls, chains, spikes and heraldry.

Now I game with 1/72 plastic figures from Revell, Italeri, Zvezda and Caesar.

I'm definitely a 40K fan (makes a great change from building models of real-world tanks and aircraft - no rivet-counting and researching paint schemes needed!) though I haven't actually played a game yet - I'm more of a modeller/collector than a gamer.

Space Marines, Eldar and Imperial Guard are probably my favourite armies, but I also have quite a few Tau and Orks, as well as handful of Chaos, Necrons, Dark Eldar etc.
95% of these were bought second-hand on eBay so they cost me a fraction of retail price (GWs prices are what put me off Warhammer 40K originally, until I discovered eBay).

Currently I'm working on 3 Eldar vehicles (Falcon, Vyper and Wraithlord) in "Iyanden" craftworld colours (yellow and dark blue). I'll post them here when I've finished.

A few months ago I built a Space Marine Land Raider tank for the 40K group build - look through the older posts in the Sci-Fi forum and you'll find it (along with an impressive Razorback and Immolator from 2 other forum members)

I took my 11 year old great nephew to the IPMS Atlanta show and damned if he didn't get hooked on the first hit! (Seems like modeling is easier than crack to get hooked on LOL ) While I have never developed an interest in figures, we went to the local Hobby Town yesterday and he hit me up for $60.00 worth of Warhammer 40K! Heis absolutely STOKED on the stuff! It really warms my heart to see such enthusiasm. We're going to start the paint and assembly process this morning, so if any of you Hammerheads are on the site this morning any quick tips I should know about working with these things? I been doing plastic since I was eight (50 years ago!-first piece was an AMT '32 Ford five window 3-in-one ,in 1956 I built it up as a Hot Rod)and have been at it ever since, but never done any figures and know precious little about them. If you forsee a problem with my lack of knowledge on these things I sure would appreciate a heads up. This is the boy's first build and I certainly don't want him to be disappointed by my ineptitude.

Thanks, jemstar I was hoping there was at least one help site on the net! Heading over there next! I been doing cars and military right along, just now motivated by the boy to look at figures.

If you like the Games Workshop stuff, you really should take a look at the Rackham figures, http://www.rackham-store.com/, these are astounding and they are moulded just superbly, I've hardly ever had to any preparatory work on them, they're alsmot good enough to paint as soon as they come out of the blister.

believe me nathaniel that flavour of the month stuff has turned more into the flavour of the year!!! i personally collect 40k space marines. and it's nice to see other people share the same interest

I collect Warhammer Fantasy and have a few Lord of the Rings figures too. Been more along the "collecting" side than painting and playing though. Most of my stuff is a mix of Lizardmen (Saurus & Skinks were available for cheap), Bretonnian, and Empire troops.

It was fustrating when they changed the rules, all those Army books I had bought were now to be replaced with new ones. Plus it's not a cheap hobby.

Lately, I've been thinking about if I should have gotten into the 40K stuff. Been playing Dawn of War along with the expansion Winter Assault. A lot of fun!

Used to. Skaven in warhammer and Plague marines in 40K.

Let me say my son got me interested with promises of great battles. With hopes of having an edge I chose to collect an army of Necrons,including the Monolith and C-tan,I got a most impressive army some 2800pts strong. So far they Rock. Since that he's got me into Battlefleet Gothic, I have 2 fleets one Necron, and one Space Wolfs, Games Work Shop puts out some really nice pieces, It was alot of fun building and painting.

Ah all your dicussions got me to spend a 100 bucks on a bunch pretty good Cadian army pieces when I was only there to get a basilisk... The newer mold details just made them look so appealing even that they are in plastic.

I used to. Nowadays, I just get my hands on a few figures here and there. Not building an army. Started building an Eldar army but it's just sitting around now. Paint a lot of figures of characters and so forth for my friends.

WOW! Thanks David! Lots of good stuff on these little suckers on some of those sites. And I emphasize LITTLE! Never realized how small these things were 'till I started coaching my nephew! Almost too much for gnarled up 60 year old fingers and weak eyes!

They are small. No doubt about that.

The important thing is to have fun with it and enjoy working on it together, which I'm sure you and your nephew are.

Yes, I collect Warhammer 40K, and sometimes Warhammer Fantasy. In 40K I collect the glorious forces of the Imperial Guard. Along with the not-so-glorious forces of the Orks, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids, Chaos Space Marines and Tau. I have been collecting Warhammer for a very long time and possess an Imperial Guard Army of 600-700 models. Including two Titans, six Valkyries and fifty-three tanks. Believe me when I say it is very space consuming...

Do Blood Angels myself, some Imperial Guard and Battle Sisters, didn't play much, mainly building and painting Haven't touch them for a couple of years though.

I started out in the days of Epic: Space Marine, which makes me an old-timer. I have models that I pull out onto the table, and people ask me "What the hell is that?"
"It's a sentinel"
"No it isn't"
"Yes it is, it's an old one"
"What? I've seen the old ones, it's not one of those"
"It's older"

All my models, Fantasy and 40K are found in the 'Classic' section of the catalogue for some reason.

Here are a few of mine. I play Cadian in 40K, Dark Eldar in Fantasy. My Cadians are sensible people, they're not the sort to go around the battlefield in bright red uniforms or bright blue vehicles...

I think I've been playing too much Dawn of War: Winter Assault lately.  Lately whenever I see the word "Canadian" I think it's actually "Cadian". 

I used to play 40k as Eldar, always lost, and it got a little boring. I tried LOTR and got the same results. But What I really like about the hobbies is that there fun to build and paint, especially in warhammer when you can make em any way you like. The multi pose models are great!

I have a collection of eldar, imperial guard, and tyranids. Don't do much with them now........

Had the following:
1 Eldar Army + Harlequinn Troupe
1 Tyrannid Army
1 Space marine Army (Own Chapter)
1 Ork Army
1 Dwarf Army
1 Imperial space marine army(6mm) using the same chapter as the big army.

I still love to collect and paint White metal miniatures but WH40K is very rare now in my neighbourhood as well as most other white metal figs.

I've always been a interested in gaming, everything from the old Avalon Hill games, ASL, Star Fleet Battles, Battletech, D&D, etc.  Tabletop wargames have always captivated me.  It's just something about seeing an entire miniature army deployed to do battle.  So when I first had the opportunity to participate in a demo of 40K, I was hooked.  However I chose the Fantasy line vs. 40K. 

Although I don't play much, I love collecting the figures and reading the source materials.  My sons are getting into it too.  However I've been thinking about this lately, do I continue with it or call it quits.  I mean prices are going to continue to go up.  I've already been through the rule changes in the Fantasy side, making rulebooks and army books obsolete.  It really is both disappointing and frustrating at times.  To put together an army is a major investment. 

Sorry 'bout venting , but I do feel better now.

Those are some very nicely painted vehicles. Have any pics of your dark Eldar?

I've had this itch to get back into gaming, but damn, it's just way too expensive nowadays.

 

Yep WH40k is a pretty good game. IMO the best RTS to come out in a while.
