I think it's because of the snap-together part.  Some of the parts don't so much as snap as squeeze and once together, it's a pain to get them to not leave a gap.  There's an article on it somewhere, where the maker ran into the same problems I'm having.

But, don't get me wrong, it's a cool kit and is well made and detailed.  Which overcome it's shortcomings by a wide margin.

I just wish Polar Lights had come out with a 1/350th version of the ship.  That would have been cool.

TRIPPER - Nice job on that.  It looks real nice. Why so much filling and sanding?  Is the kit not well made or is it because it is a simple snap together kit?  I was planning on getting one and the Klingon D-7.

Updates.  Got busy with the real world, but I've gotten some time to do some assembly and painting.  By painting, I mean priming to see what needs further sanding.

And for some reason, Flickr likes to upload backwards, but they are in the correct order in the set.

Also, I owe some thanks to Dan Lee (http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/misc/scifi/leeent.htm) for his build experience.  20 hours filling and sanding is no exageration.

Enjoy.

GeeK? Well then I are guilty as well. Because I think you must be some level of geek to be building these old ships. But to me they're a part of Sci Fi heritage, so yes, I have no problem preserving them!

I think you're right about the Star Trek episode name... I do remember the hand gripping the saucer. It was the god Apollo.

Yeah, wasn't it "Who Mourns for Adonis?" that had the big hand holding onto the ship? (/geek).

Going out of town tonight for a week, so everything gets a week to dry out and set up completely.

BTW, there is a *lot* more light over my workspace than that and those are color corrected. Use a flash and everything floods out too much, don't and it looks like I'm shooting in the dark.

Interesting image - the big grip on the ship!

I like... thanks for sharing. I will be getting my PLs ordered soon, too. I wanna run lights, etc. in them. Going to set to doing a variety of these - both the Fed ship and the Klingon.
