Silent Running reference material needed!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 9:29 PM

Hi All.

Looking for reference material for the movie "Silent Running" especially the drones.

The few kits are out seem to be all recasts, so I decided I want to build my own in either 1/8 or 1/6 scale but need good references for those. Any help, links, sources appreciated.

Thanks, in advance.

Zen

P.S.: I know there are some resin offerings on eBay but nobody knows which kit they are (incl. the seller)

That's one of my all-time favorite movies.

I loved the big ships with their forest domes!

I will have to scrounge around and see what is there for you myself, because would really be cool to see those craft recreated.  I was thinking recentntly that it woulld be good to see one of those ships built.

Those bio-domes would look really cool modelled with diorama material inside.

Maybe we can do some sort of combined effort in bringing this old sleeper movie back to life, eh?

Thanks.

I saw one guy on eBay offering a model of the Valley forge, unfortunately it was only 10" long and sells for around USD100

Always wanted to build a model of one of those Bio-domes, just never got round to doing it.

Yeah, I too love the movie, SF at it's best.

Here's my Duey purchased eons ago. Don't know the manufacturer. Used the movie as a reference. It took a while to get the color just right.

I know it doesn't exactly help very much w/the Drones, but here's a nice Valley Forge site: Valley Forge  Lots of great pics of the surviving agrodome on the Props page of that site.

That's from MiniModelMadness and sells for $60 (plus shipping) on their site.  It only recently became available again after some re-working of the master.   No clue why it's being listed on eBay for $100, tho - that just seems crazy to me.  Dunce [D)]

Anyhow,  I just purchased one and while it has a few accuracy issues, looks like it can easily be made in to a very nice representation of the Valley Forge.  I plan to accurize mine a bit once I get around to working on it.  I want to add it to my TOS BSG RagTag Fugitive Fleet.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Let me know if there are any views from the movie in particular that you're looking for, dude.  I've got the movie on DVD and have the software capabilities to do some ScreenCaps for you, if you need.  Just shoot me an email w/the basic scene from the movie and include the time index.
