I rented it last night. i noticed on an artist rendition on one of the ads for the movie the car actually has a black racing stripe down the top. Well it's there in the movie but it is only truly visable before the car gets scorched on the front clip.
Details I noticed:
1. In the movie the dual exhausts exit from a square hole cut out where the license plate should be. In the artist's rendition the care appears to have side pipes which conveniently a set comes with the kit I bought.
2. I'll have to shave the the "chrome" strip from under the door pan. The movie dosen't have this.
3. I'll have to scratch build the front and rear off-road bumpers from sprue and scratch the a tow winch for the front. Thbumber will be easy because I did it on one of my military hummers that had an insorrect bumper. Not sure how I will do the winch...
4. The consoles in the middle of the dash and on the over head will also have to be scratched some how.
5. The vehicle may have no back seat. it is hard to tell. in some shots it appears that there are some wire and hoses in the back seat area but it is unclear whether whis is just junk in the passenger area or part of the cars workings which brings us to...
6. Engine. From the sound and how the car "takes off" you are lead to belive that there is certainly not a standard engine under the hood. The engine sounds like a turbine and the red glow from the exhaust and all of the switches and gauges tends to lean toward to this assumption. (Actually it seems to be more like a jet engine but that concept is waaaaay to out there.) Any way i plan to scratch a turbine engine like I am in the middle of with my Knight Rider car and Polar Lights Batmobile.
7. Lastly underneath the car the drive train looks standard excepte that there is an "I" shaped flat metal plate covering the boottom of the engine and tranny. (Probably because they removed the engine for the scenes where the car is suspended and the plate covers the hole. However, I will add that many off road and stunt vehicles have a metal plate under the engine to protect the oil pan so this is not unsusal.)
8. Interior seems to be standard black with bare metal plates in place of the interior door inserts. Not sure if there is a roll cage but the kit comes with one and I'm going to use it. The kit also comes with racing seats with harnessess. Though the movie car looked like it had standard seats i fell the racing seats would be more realistic on an off-road vehicle so I think I will use them.
In short I am looking for a balance between "realism" and accuracy rather than a 100% accurate model. Playing with ideas for strachting that winch...
