Woody - Question about molding (not mildew)
Posted by Fish-Head Aric on Friday, November 18, 2005 2:22 PM

Woody,

Have been looking on at your process of building the Baton Rouge model.  What/how/who/hey do you do that casting of the parts for molds?  What is the blue stuff you use? Where can a guy get directions for making casts?

Just tell me please how do you do that whole thing?

I want to make some molds and work on some casting of a few things that just aren't available on the market, mostly for personal use, but also just want to learn something new.

Thanks much!

Ive always used the rubber and resin from smooth-on, the stuff is great and a whole lot cheaper than micromark and smooth on has samplers that are a quarter of the price MM has for the same amount of stuff.

www.smoothon.com and look for the samplers. And! they have videos on how to make moulds and casting!

The stuff I use is oomoo30 for the rubber and smooth cast 300 for the plastic, they are both 1:1 ratio.

Both Seattle WA and Portland OR  have Tap Plastic stores where you can find all the casting and mold making supplies you'll need. Most of thier staff can answer any question you might have on what products work best for what you need to do. Thier prices are very reasonable too.
