A few pics of my 160 PG Strike Gundam *still under construction*...added more pics

Howdy all!

I finally have an evening to myself here (no kid, no girlfriend...I think we can all relate to the opportunity to get down to business on a kit....ah, bliss) and I decided to post a few pics of my PG Strike Gundam.

I still have quite a way to go before it is completed, but I am hoping ( insert wild hoots of mad laughter here) to have it done by January....we shall see...

Anyway, just so you can see what it is that these things come with I included a photo of the box, which is about 22" by 13", and parts of my workbench. The F14 Super Cat will more than likely be done before this #*@& thing will, but that one is for my boss. Like I said before in another posting...this thing is HUGE! But there are TONS of parts and the detail and fit is amazing, its the decals, Bob..the DECALS!!! Grrr.....

The bottle of Miller Lite is not only for size comparison, but also for my sanity as the legs and waist alone consist of about 350 parts....yeah....350... Now you know why the Miller lite is there... Hehehe

Hope you enjoy the pics...there will be more as it comes together!

Looks great so far. I like the colors and the paint details. Is that wing from the f-14 , if so how about you attach it to the gundam? :> The size looks like it stand out on the shelf which is a good thing. Any plans for a dio base for it? Did you make your paint holder in the back ?

Here is an interesting fact about miller i found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_Brewing

It was acquired by South African Breweries from Philip Morris (now Altria) on May 30, 2002, to form SABMiller for $3.6 billion worth of stock and $2 billion in debt, with Philip Morris retaining a 36% share, with voting rights of 24.99%.

Wow, that thing IS huge!  I want one now!  Very nice work so far.

BTW, I also like your paint holder...

I noticed you're not part of our Gundam Group Build... maybe you may want to join it?

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I am hoping to get the Sky Grasper for it when its finally done...but all the extras for this thing are pretty expensive. I think that it will look pretty good with some of my other mechs up on the shelf though. (even though it'll be towering over them)

As far as the paint holder goes, that is a drawer from a really old artists desk. I think its gotta be about 80 or 90 years old. But I found it at a garage sale of all places...and by accident...I saw it from the road. But they wanted 2 bucks for it, and it works out perfectly for my paints.

As for the Miller Lite? Well, its less filling and tastes great! LOL! Besides, only 2 carbs....lower than Mich Water... Er, I mean Mich Ultra...

The Gundam group build? Is it too late to join?

Best thing to do is pot up in the GB thread and ask.  I'm sure nathaniel wouldn't have a problem with it, as many of us are very busy and understand that modeling (unfortunately) must take a back seat to other things.  I'm pretty sure he'll make an exception for you. Wink [;)]

Looks good. Only recommendation I really have is to replace that bottle of Miller with a bottle of Spaten.Big Smile [:D]

I've got a mostly-done 1/100 RX-78-2 in my backlog. I had the thing all painted and assembled except for the head and the shield several years ago when I decided that I didn't like the hand-brushed paint job I was doing on it. Now that I have an airbrush, I can go back to it. But I'm also working on other stuff that I want to finish first. It'll give me time to decide between a camoflage scheme or an "all-white" job (remember, it was originally supposed to be all white. Not flashy enough for a cartoon, though).

Well, for one, you're way too organized. Dump 5 or 6 different model kits on your bench, randomly arrange 2 dozen bottles of various paints and coat nicely with dust.

Other than that it looks awsome. Sweet!

Thanks!

...the funny thing about that desk "appearing" to be organized is what you cannot see....

I have about 4 other projects that are in various stages of construction, a valk, an SDF1, a Phantom, a paper martian war machine, and a little dio that I am scratchbuilding for a friend...oh, not to mention the TomCat. (I guess thats more than four...D'OH!)

But the waist is done, and now its on to the torso. I'll post some more pics tonight.

Oh, and if it wasn't for this Atkins diet my true choice would be Tucher! Evil [}:)]

I am actually quite impressed with some of the improvments they've made to the PG line when I bought my Strike Rouge.  Okay, it blew my budget, but that stnd was worth it.  Every PG ever made NEEDS a stand, no questions asked.

I was a little dissapointed with the lack of metal in the model however.  Well, more suprised than anything.  The PG Wing Zero, which I had built shortly before had enough metal and screws to sink a small boat.  But the PG Strike had just one screw for the battery-pack in it's head and one metal peice for the hips.

BTW, does anyone know the US conversaion of the kind of battery that's required for this kit?  I'm just guessing, but nither of my other PG models have the same one.    the instructions say it's a CR1220 but thats the japanese name of the battery, all the Duracells and Energizers here have diferent "numbers" on them.

Yeah, I would have thought there would be more metal in this thing as well...but then this is the first PG kit I have ever done...and for how long it is taking me? Probably the last! lol But there is a die cast piece in the hips and one in each leg (Just for weight, although the one in the hips seems to be for rigidity too)...other than that, you are correct...one screw for the battery pack head light/lamp/glowing LED thingy.

The battery is a CR1220, and I found it at Wal Mart for like three bucks.

Anyway, here's a few more pics, enjoy!

That last photo has some of the parts for the torso/chest area. It has a little 1/60 pilot in there that you will barely be able to see once its done, but whatareyagonnado? It had to be detailed anyway!

The CR1220 replaces CR1220 / BR1220 / DL1220 / PA / SB-T13. THey have finally started using the same numbers. There was a time when everybody had thier own designations for the smaller batteries.
