Into Gundam models?
Posted by Mindless on Sunday, December 18, 2005 3:43 PM
Don't know if this is the right section to post in, but I believe Gundams fall into the Sci-Fi category.

Since I'm new here (just registered), I figured I would ask how many here on the boards are into Gundam models?

I got into it recently because I've had a great passion for models in the past (anything from aircraft to motorcycles), and because I've always been into mecha (robot) cartoons/animes.

So, how many are there? Smile [:)]

Here's the second Gundam model I've built. The first one was more of an experiment to test out how it is to airbrush, so I'm not going to show it (it looks terrible!).

Comments and critique on my work is also very welcome. But do take in mind that this is my second airbrush work and my second model in years.

The Aluminium color is from Alclad. The black and yellow are Insignia Yellow and Semi-gloss Black from Modelmaster.

I built one earlier this year and enjoyed it quite a bit.  I'll probably pick another one up one of these days, when I run across one.

Nice work on the Nu Gundam. One of my favorites.

Nice work all.

kylwell, I'm not a big Gundam fan but that Zaku of yours is flat out sweet! Nice work.

Thanks Woody. Nice OOB build eh?

Weeks of grinding, sanding, polishing and then off to paint. Gotten to love weathering, dents, dings, rust. So much fun. Too bad I canna do a Refit this way.

Thanks for the comment.

But I got to say, that Zaku looks sweet. Great work.

The next one coming up for me is this one:

http://www.hlj.com/product/ban938609

It's going to be a huge model when finished. I'm not very good at turning centimeters into inches and feet, but I believe that thing will stand about 1'7" when finished. Very big (for a gundam model).

Expect to see a thread with regular updates with pictures and stuff when I get it and start working on it. I'm not really going to modify it that much, just give it a different paintjob.

23.6220472 inches wide.

Still doesn't beat the HGUC Dendrobium for shear hugeness.

As a BTB, Google offers conversions. Just type in what size to what units.

Haha, yeah, that thing is a beast in the anime, so it would make sense if it was as a model too. Wink [;)]

And thanks for the tip. Smile [:)]

I love the kits, but have never seen a single episode of the show!

Pretty much though I will build whatever strikes my fancy when it comes to mechs. The old-school Robotech kits by Ceji, Patlabor by Ban Dai, the Polar Lights robots (Robbie and Lost in Space), the Honda PIII by Wave, are all a lot of fun....but there is just something about the quality and fit of the Ban Dai kits...

I actually posted a thread on here with my only complaint about them....the stickers....

....sigh...what can you do...

Anyway, here's a couple of pics of my current Gundam project...it has taken a side seat for the past two weeks cause I gotta finish a jet for a gift, but here it is:

Yours looks awesome by the way!

cferrero: So far so good (actually very good). Be sure to post some pictures once you finish it. Smile [:)]

Which model is it? Looked a bit like the legs from Strike, but I'm not sure...?

frostygirl: Yeah, I saw it a page or two pack in the Gundam GB thread. I really liked the color of it. Keep it up. Approve [^]

Dig the beer bottle dude.  LOL.  Is that why that paint rack looks slanted to me...

Hehehe...well that night I was knocking back a few...

But its there for size comparison too.

The paint rack is an old antique drawer that I got at a garage sale for like two bucks, it leans up against the wall...probly should fasten it....

*accidentally crashes knee into table* *paint rack starts tipping over*

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" *BOOM*

Tongue [:P]

No, seriously though. I got a slight update on how my shipment is coming along. It went through the customs today (or yesterday) and should be at my local post office by now, so I will probably have a little note in the mail tomorrow saying "You can now pick up the package at your local Post Office".

Can't wait. Smile [:)]

I'll be sure to post some pictures if I can get a hold of a digital camera.
