Desert Patlabor: Operation Toonami Storm
Posted by MartianGundamModeler on Friday, January 6, 2006 10:37 AM

This is a small dio I call "Photo Ops" from Operation Toonami Storm for my AWA (Anime Weekend Atlanta) model diplay. It is a military labor from the Patlabor series modified for desert combat. It won first place senior division. I have also created a Desert Modified Gundam Leopard Destroy which will probly post next week...  The right shoulder is is actuall composed of an army helmet from a 9 inch action figure and the gears is from Tamiya's military accessory set. The the shoulder rocket launchers are from a Gundam GM hand held unit and the decals are from a Humm Vee (labels and numbers) and a M2A2 Bradley fighting vehicle (the palm trees). All comments are welcome as I have waited two years to finally be able to post quality pics on this site. Enjoy!

CONGRATULATIONS ON ANOTHER WELL-DESERVED PLACEMENT!

I like this one overall much more than the Leopard.  I think the model design, along with your paint scheme, etc., makes for a very nice set up.

Thanks. The unique shoulder came about because I lost the original shoulder of course i found it about a month after the model was completed but i like how it turned out. It was originally built OOB about 15 years ago. I then decided to rebuild it with all that I had learned from the military modelers on this site. Originally it was going to be olive drab then I had an idea for a desert version considering what's going on in the world. I am still going to build that green version again when I get another kit!LOL

Actually I don't recall. I beleive it was some cheapo fig I bought to get the weapons and the uniform. And I mean cheap, like maybe a $1 or $2  fig!LOL I found the helmet in some junk and i beleive that is where it came from. Beleive me it wasn't a G.I. Joe. I beleive this fig was like 7-8 inch but had a cloth uniform.

Thanks. I got a littel sloppy with the wash on the back side because I was pressed for time. I finished it the day before the convention. I replaced the kit supplied rubber-like "canvas", that covers the internal skeletal joints, with painted tissue paper. Much more realistic and makes the kit easier to pose. He or is it a she, is named for the mythological River of the Dead "The River Styx". I also have an award winning Danube class runabout that is painted in the same manor of my Defiant Class U.S.S. Monitor for covert special operations. I'll post pics of it sometime this week.
