Special Ops Danube Class U.S.S. Styx

This my Danube Class Starfleet Special Operations Runabout the U.S.S. Styx. She is a pretty old dio that I built about 3 or 4 years ago and my second lighted model. It uses battery powered Christmas lights. I have since been using LEDs and fibre optics. It is based on the same premise as my U.S.S. Monitor from the book The Return by William Shatner and as such uses much of the same technology. All of the figs are 1/72 aircraft figs painted in Starfleet and Bajorian uniforms. I made up brown Bajorian engineering uniforms. There are both Next Gen and last season Next Gen style uniforms in the mix. Some the figs were ppainted for a separate dio with the Rio Grand where there was a plasma leak coming from the the busard but I didn't feel like setting all that back up so I simply placed ALL of my engineers on this dio for the pic. The Styx got me First Place Amature at Chattacon about 3-4 years ago. There were professional guys in this art show who had built ships and props for some low buget sci fi movies. Styx is a little dusty and I will get her out and refurbish her sometime later this year. You will notice on both of my runabouts I added extra decals and labeling from aircraft and mecha kits to give a realistic aircraft look. on a vehicle this scale one would expect to see more labeling IMO. The Styx has a "dual pulse phaser cannon" mounted in the roll bar and I have a stat sheet typed up but I didn't feel like typing it all but I'll post it if anyone wants to know it's stats. The stats are mostly based on the DS Tech Manual.  I cut out grills in the pylons and lighted them as well in the Styx using speaker grill to simulate the blue grilled portion  in the rear of the pylons. I'll post lighted images and pylon details later. Comments are welcome!

These pics of my Rio Grand  are provided for comparison, and it too is in dire need of a refurb. The Rio grand was my first lighted kit though I don't think they work anymore.

And of course the vehicle on which the Styx is based, the U.S.S. Monitor.

looks great mate!! :D

i wish Gundam's main lineup is 1/60 instead of 1/100 or 1/144 so it'd be easier to source the figs for diorama...
I'm having enough trouble to find the figs in the 1/100 scale or there about... :(

I'm always fascinated with those ST kits with fibre optic lighting system...
I saw few of Gundam kits using fibre optic cables in 1/144 scale inc. lighted beam sabre...

people living in glass colonies shouldn't throw nuclear stones.

Lighted beam sabre would be sweet! I may try that for the next anime convention. 144 scale Gundams fit pretty good in those Gigantics dioramas. I have used them before. These dios all feature a giant insect but come with buildings, cars (wrecked and unwrected) and pedestrians. I used 1/72 arcraft figs for this dio. I used an exacto to cut off unwanted details painted them in starfleet colors. I chose older style uniforms becasue they are more identifiable in this small scale.
