It looks good, from my understanding all you really need to paint on this kit is the interior and the base coat and everything else is decals. Is that true?

It is true but don't under estimate the decals, over 170 and they don't sit down well...

Great Build Rossjr! But i think you positioned the hyperdrive ring upside down when you shot this picture!Wink [;)] Love the weathering. i had fun building mine, the decals were a bit tough but with some setting solution it's all worth while. Keep it up!

Yeah I think the fighter is supposed to drop down from it's moorings, but backwards ring aside great build!LOL Wink [;)] I can't even find so much as the snap kit around here.Sad [:(]

Anyone ever wonder why there were no x and y wings in the prequels when they were supposed to all be "old fighters".

From what I remember, Incom (after being taken over by the Empire and becoming a govornment-run company) developed the X-Wing during the time of the rebellion, and the rebels raided the factory and stole the prototypes.

"Old fighters" was probably an apparency 'cause there were so few of them in the rebel fleet -- they were always in use and got pretty beat up.

Too many decals for my taste, I'd probably paint most of the details.

Cool, explains the similiarity to the fighter the clones hat with the gunner stations. Still would have been nice to see some y-wings with the engine plating intact. I beleive it was the either the Art of Star Wars or oine of the technology books that said that the strust on the engine of the Y-wing used to be covered with plating but the rebels removed it all for some reason. Can you shed any light on this?

I thing the Jedi fighters are just too small though I will admit that it's simplicity and manuverability is more befitting a Jedi...

The reason the original armor was removed from the Y-wings by the Rebel mechanics was that, as stated above, the ships were in constant use, and therefore in constant need of repair, tune-ups, etc.  Also, if I remember correctly, I believe I've read that the Y-wings were supposed to be rather tricky and tempermental, and the parts for them were very rare, leading to what were essentially improvisational field repairs, even when the ships weren't in the field.

Thanks for the headsup djseptic! The y-wing has always been an underdog but is one of my favorites.
