Polar Lights TOS Enterprise

Well, just gor my second Enterprise kit. Too many choices. How should I do it? One of the other 3 versions of E? or the Constellation? Or the Exeter? Or the defiant? Any suggestions?

I've seen it advertised in some mags here, going for 1,600 yen ($14.50 US), but none have made it to the shelves yet. Or just didn't last long on the shelves, maybe!

Brian, Steve at Scalehobby.com was selling them for $10 apiece plus shipping (I bought 3). I think he's out right now, but you could probibly pre-order a couple. Shipping to Japan would be expensive. But if you buy several it lowers the per item cost. And maybe you could sell a couple to your buddies there and get some of it back. Just a thought.

At least you can find 'em...I haven't been able to come across one here in Japan yet!

I found mine at the local Hobby Lobby. Bought one for $14.99. Now I feel gypped! Got screwed and didn't even get a kiss! They had five on the shelf though. Went to the local Target and the clerk I asked had no idea what I was talking about!

Well, have it your way there too...... my experience has been a very tight fitting parts assortment thus-far. I test fitted the saucer section and had to use fingernails, yea verily, even a tool to get it back open..... it does not appear to affect the fit either way either. The only real blemish I found thus far, other than not being perfect in every way (because nothing is) is that the engine supports come as two pieces.... can't quite figure that one out. I will liquid glue the heck out of mine and sand down the joint.... otherwise I'm very pleased with it.

Those comments are too funny, stratojet! I can't wait to start on my kit when I return from a trip this weekend. Should I proceed to glue and snap together, or should I snip the snaps off and just glue?

Am I the only one disappointed by this kit? I thought the primary and engineering hulls were well done but the nacels and supports were lacking. Plus, who's the bonehead that put the copyright text on the outside of the kit? I am a sci-fi modeler forever spoiled by the fine molds kits. Of course, even with the disappointment, I bought three.

I've started work on my Polar Lights Enterprise and it's one of the few Sci Fi kits I ever seed' that actually FITS! WOW!

This one doesn't need a trip to the Auto Paint Store for a quart of Bondo(R) to fill all the seams! It may even not need glue to "really" hold it together. Most snap together kits I ever worked with should have a little picture of Joe Isuzu after the "No Glue Required" that has in tiny little print that says "No Not Really".

This one is really different..... spiffy...... three versions, even two sets of engine nacelles according to version, stick on AND waterslide decals, clear warp domes, clear running lights.... and hark..... why are they shaped in a bracketlike form? Could they be formed to receive fibre optic lighting?????

This kit is a winner winner winner..... winner winner winner! YEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAW! Y'know.... wouldn't it be cool to have a little Slim Pickens to sit on one of the warp nacelles.... sorry.... got a little carried away there......

This is a sweetheart of a kit. One of the best as for fit and design.

Update: I found another Target with 3 more on sale at $7.99. Got all I need to do virtually any Enterprise variant they list.

The kit is well worth the $13 retail price and it was a steal at $10 and $8. I will grab another when I see one.

Got to have atleast 4, one for each version and one to keep. I have 3 so far. It's a great kit, I just wish it had the windows molded in, and I wish the pylons were one part.
can't wait for the NX this winter.

I'd like a third one. Since the kit builds into 3 versions of the Enterprise. I loved the show as a kid and have watched all of the TV spin-offs. I even watched the cartoon!

Two of them???? Maj Rob, that is soooo unfair! I will have to check out the Targets around here! Hopefully, you haven't gotten to them before I!!

Thanks for the heads up Lee. I took the family to the mall for some back-to-school shopping and in the Target they had two of them. Shelf price was $9.99, but when I checked out they scanned at $7.99 each! Less than $16 for both of them. I'm glad I went back for the second one since I originally took only one. I had a store credit slip for $15 and didn't want to spend any of the budgeted school clothes money. So it basically only cost me a buck.

My local Hobbytown USA carries it for $12.99. Did not know it carries both waterslide and stickers. May have to get several, I'd like to do the Defiant as well as one of the Enterprises.

The Polar Lights kit of the Enterprise IS available in the States!

Distribution is either a bit spotty or there are distributors who aren't bothering with it - take your pick - but the best way to find out is to check with your local store and ask about it. If they've never heard about it, then they are totally out of the loop. There are online stores where you can purchase it if your store doesn't/won't carry it.

It's a beauty of a little kit! Worth the time to track down. It's the most accurate version of the ship available in styrene.

I've never built a Star Trek model, but from the sound of it, I think it's time to try one. If only they had it in the states...

I'm in the middle of building this kit myself, and it's been a sweetie so far.

In fact, the model I'm working on is scheduled to appear in the Workbench Reviews section of the January, 2004 FSM.

By the way, I finally picked up the Bandai STTMP Enterprise. Very nice!

Need to make a correction in the kit instructins. It says parts14, 17 and 16, 15 are the main warp drive parts for trhe production version. Incorrect, as that version had detail on the inside of the engines. Use parts 14, 19 and 18, 15 for a correct production version. the other parts are for a 1st or 2nd pilot version.
