hehe, there is always the endoskeleton of the T800 terminator.  Robocop and the ED209 whatever thing have some resin kits.  My LHS has an old kit of Mean Machine from Judge Dredd... well he's only part machine.  I personally am trying to find anything, even drawings on the ABC Warrior from the movie.  It just looked awesome and good for a long term project.

I won't bother list any of them Japanese big robos...

Well, there are about a kazillion Gundam, Patlabor, Votoms, and other robot kits available. Well, I guess those are actually mobile suits, and not true robots, per se...then there's the Big O, Mazinger, Giant Robo, Tetsujin 28...too many to list!

Ah, there's the Maximilion and V.I.N.CENT kits from The Black Hole, but those are kind of rare and expensive.

How about ED-209, from the Robocop films? There have been several kits released of that subject (Horizon, Argonauts), as well as Robocop himself (again, not a true robot).

Wave released two real robot kits: the Honda P2 and P3 humanoid robots. Great kits, in 1/12 scale.

There are bound to be others, but that's all I can come up with right now!

EDIT: just had a nice simulpost with archangel571!

Bandai made (or still makes) a model of IQ-9, the annoying robot doctor thingy from Space Cruiser Yamato (Starblazers).

Don't forget Gigantor! I've seen a few nice kit of him.

My favorite are Gundam. The Perfect Grade line are the best with 500-1000 parts and lots of detail and build options, 1/60 scale. The Master Grade line are really good with 100-300 parts and plenty of detail 1/100 scale. The High Grade and some of the "non-grade" lines can be really nice too with fewer parts and good detail 1/144 - 1/100 scale. BanDai does an excellent job of engineering their kits. They also make kits of Evangelion another favorite of mine.

or if you want your Gundam big there's 1/24 scale HY2M at 80 cm tall or 1/12 scale Zaku at around 1.4 metre tall.. O_O

Or if you want your Gundam big but don't want to bother with assembly there's Jumbo Grade at 1/60 scale...

I didn't! That's Tetsujin 28, which I mentioned above.

I like the now slightly out of production Dougram and Revell Robotech Models, they had that gritty combat machine look to them. I like the Gundam ones for building, but they just seem to samurai-like. The Crusher Joe robots were cool too.

Imagine a witty signature right .....here....

I'll go along with that.  The Dougram, Crusher Joe, and Macross kits are pretty good and have potential for detailing.  When I play on-line I like to use one of these when I can and if the weight limits allow it.

Which version of Robbie?  If you look at the blueprints, there are 6 plus versions (depending on the movie that he appeared in).  Besides those that have been mentioned from Japan, you appear to be talking about true robots, rather than manned systems.  There is GORT (from 'When the Earth Stood Still') , TOBOR, robots from the 1960's Worlds Fairs, M-66, Johnny #5 (from Short Circuit), Cattie (from a Japanese show), another robot (forgot his name/number) from Fireball XL5, ABC Robot (from Judge Dredd), wonderful flying robots (from 'Batteries Not Included'), Iron Giant (from of course 'Iron Giant'), Fuchikoma (from 'Ghost in the Shell'), Heuy, Deuy, Leuy (from 'Silent Running') and of course the wonderful tin cans from the 1940's - 1950' Flash Gordon Series.  Other than that, you can scratch build any robot that you can envision or at least find a drawing of (like the Nanobot at www.smallartworks.ca/Gallery/Robot/Robot.html  ).  Hope that this helps.

All day something has been nagging at me, as if I had forgotten someone.  Ah, yes. There is Data played by Brent Spinner in Star Trek - The Next Generation, Maria from the movie Metropolis, Robot Welder in Love by Streamline (I really like this kit for the textures that it offers), Westworld/Futureworld had some wonderful robots, then there are the two robots on Mars - Spirit/Opportunity with expensive kits out there, then there are robots that have not been made into kits yet.  Such as Julie Newmar in "My Living Doll" for those that can remember back that far, Heart Beeps with Andy Kaufman playing Valcom-17485 and Peters playing Aquacom-89045, Bicentennial Man played by Robin Williams (must have this one, or sculpt it), I-Robot where Scott Heindl voiced NS5 opposite Will Smith (this would be a killer kit if both were sculpted - if anyone out there is reading this), the entire cast of Robots (the animation - where everyone and everything was a robot, the possibilities are endless with this movie alone), Andromeda has some giant Combat robots as well (don't forget about the Avatar Romie which is part of the ship), then there are the Cylons from the classic/new Battlestar Galactica, Red Planet also had a robot hunting down Val Kilmer (this is another one that I would pay dearly for), Aliens movies had lifelike Androids (but this gets into another area that could go on and on).  I think that I just touched the surface on this topic.  There could be more if I do some research on it.

Nice rundown of robots there, Mike, but I think DURR is looking for available kits, not suggestions of what would make a good kit (and your suggestions are great!). And he already mentioned he doesn't want Robby (in Forbidden Planet configuration, anyway) or Robot from LIS.

And welcome to FSM!
Sounds like you know your robots. Looking forward to seeing some of your builds!

There is also the other robot from the LIS movie.
Huey, Duey and Louie were already mentioned.  Been several resin kits of them and I have also seen paper models.

Yes, J-Hulk, I realized later that he is wanting available kits. Most of those listed in my first response are available thru one source or another, others (like the Cattie, TOBOR, M-66, etc.) are getting quite rare.  I do apologize for the dream list.  (I also found that I misspelled Huey, Duey, Luey in my letter - the shame!). Another that was not mentioned by anyone - that is available is the Atom Boy kit.  There are three versions available.

Philp does mention another source that is currently available, paper models.  This is another area that I am getting into a bit more lately. There are many more robots in paper form that are free, or for a minor fee, can be downloaded.

One point that I was making, is to try and build your own if there are no available kits out there.  Currently my local hobby shop has for the most part, the Japanese kits available (mainly manned systems like the Gundams/L-Gaims and such).  One kit that I like started out as a paper/cardboard model was Johnny #5 from Short Circuit.  It proved so popular that it soon came out as an expensive resin kit.  I have seen pics from the Wonderfest - Louisville, Kentucky from two years ago that show all the transitions from paper to resin.  I would like to see similar pictures from the Wonderfest in Japan.

One that is on my workbench now is the M-66 from Masume Shirow's Animation M-66.  The kit came with two small (1/10 scale?) figures, one with clothes/skin and one without.  Nice kit but a bit too small for my tastes.  Currently scratching a larger version like shown in a B-Club Magazine article several years ago.  Also on the bench now is a scratch built 'in-construction/assembly' version of the M-66 with all the hydraulics showing. It's a major build, so will take a while to finish.  I should put together a set of progress photos on this build sometime in the future.

From Dr. Who there is the dog robot, I think his name was K-9 and the Dalecks(sp). There were other robots through out that show.

Not sure if there are kits for these; Twiggie from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and the android Shurman from the movie Millennium.

You mean Twiki?

Man, I'd love a Twiki kit! There are none that I know of.
