New here, looking to get into some Star Wars models.
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 25, 2006 9:44 PM
Hello everyone. I was recomended to come here by a member of the Spawn.com boards.

Looking for some guidance on getting myself a few Star Wars pieces...such as the Falcon, Slave 1, an X-Wing, an Tie Fighter...among others of course.

I see quite a few different variations on Ebay and I have no idea where to start. :( I am looking to get the best without breaking my piggy bank. :D :p

So any help from anyone is greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Heya Slam, the best kits are from Finemolds but they are a little rough on the wallet, but they are consistant in scale 1/76, but the AMT rereleases are the cheapest ,some good detail, the kits are not the same scale and they do not have the  correct detail on some of them.

Welcome to FSM.  Stipp is right on the money, the Fine Molds kits are by far the BEST!!! However with some well planed work the AMT kits can turn out great as well. Check around in your LHS or big box stores for the AMT stuff before buying them on ebay as most of them have been reissued.

Check your local Toys 'R Us for any kits left. Kinder on the wallet. Also check here: http://www.starshipmodeler.net/cgi-bin/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=36

At least one person right now selling SW kits, usually more. Don't be afraid to request some.

And welcome aboard!

Hey again, thanks for the help so far, another quick question. I need help on learning the best way to suspend the ships in the air from the ceiling? Like is it just fishing line with hooks? Or am I oblivious? :)

Thank so much

Welcome to FSM, Terry here, Stipp is right, but the way I see it nobody in their right mind would hang FINEMOLDS kits from the ceiling, the cost of a crash would be too high.

Regards,

Terry.

I would definately reccomend from AMT/ERTL the Darth Vader TIE Fighter,TIE Interceptor,AT-ST and Millenium Falcon.I have built the above and they can look as good as you want.It all depends on how much effort you put into it.These kits fit together pretty good.

Also,I would check Ebay for an AMT kit called IMPERIAL TIE FIGHTERS.In this kit you get TWO TIEs with a base that resembles the surface of the Death Star.I have yet to build it,but I have heard only praise for this kit.

I have this kit and have not started it yet, but it does look very nice and you can get TWO fighters for a pretty low price
