Well, as far as I am aware.. It is a vent, so the appearance of of a vent is the idea.. Mesh.. I guess if you have it resessed and not right up front, it could ad a little character to it...

Presumably the nose should not be flush with the edge. I was thinking fill it up, but leave it indented and put a mesh grille i have, off some tank engine. What ya think?

It just arrived and I decided it really needs a proper cockpit and the stand is sooooo baaaad I have to get a proper landing gear for it. So, more money and another wait. I do have one question though for you Chris. The nose has a hole in it. It's almost as if something is missing, but checking the instructions seems fine. There are struts on the inside and a home in the underside of the front fuselage as if something is meant to go inside, like a toy missile firing gadget....

Any chance you could put up a head-on pic of yours?

Thanks,
Sean.

Thanks Sean,

It really is a simple build, not a difficult model at all.. Its the detailing or, the knowing how much is enough detailing on the Viper that makes them look great.. Please feel free to post your progress as you go. I know I am plenty interested in seeing how yours comes along!

I just got one of the Revell vipers on e-bay for about $41 including post. Was almost tempted to get the Black Sun 1/72 Viper & cylon raider from the new series,  but at $40 + postage, for a kit that's under 5", I decided to keep my money! Looking forward to receiving my big viper. Hope I can do as good a job as you Chris.

Having the room is a major problem for everyone I think.. But I was watching local television one afternoon and a local guy here in Fukuoka built a glass cabinet that took up the whole length and height of the back wall (5m wide by 3m tall) of his upstairs relaxation or sun room, and decked it out with display lighting. I dont know the number inside, but it was alot.. Mainly tanks, and aircraft, with a few boats and sci fi stuff.. But it was alot..

Chris

ps: I am going to put this shameful plug into my posts.. I have just started a new blog for showing my work, and for stuff people may be after.. Feel free to have a look at it, and join in.. Just finished setting it up this morning, so nothing but introductions and a comment in the trading section..  The address is:   http://modsjapan.exblog.jp/

Yes the 1/35 scale hasn't re-appeared in BG stuff. Plenty in 1/48 and 1/72. I don't know where I'll display the big ones, but they're easier on these failing eyeballs!

He he he..

Yes I am hooked.. But I have been since I was a kid.. And this new series is just amazing television..

As for what else I plan on getting. My mate F91 has organised me a set of the Titanium BSG figures, and as for model kits of the new stuff, I simply cant understand why they never built them to scale to the 1/35 Viper from Monogram?.. You see, I have this strange fetish about everything being in scale with each other.. So if I line up a TOS Viper next to a Mk II, and a Mk VII, and a Raptor. I want them to be in scale so as to give a sence of realism to the subjects..

I/24 might be nice and big, but the average modeler have enough trouble getting thier hands on an old Monogram Viper, or simply dont have the funds to pay for the more extreme kits.. Atleast the 1/35 Monogram is still around..

Thats just my take on it, and I just find that the Monogram Viper is plenty big.. I have a 1/32 F/A-18C Hornet that I built. And to be honest, I have no where to put it.. It sits in a cupboard..

Cheers, Chris

When I worked on my last Viper I scratch built the cockpit and landing gear using the old 1977 blueprints as a guide.  All went well untill I got to the second main gear.  That's when I discovered that the drawings for the left and right gear were different.  I had no choice but to redraw the previously used gear so it would work on the other side. I even cut the panels from between the engines and added new pipes and details so it would have a more realistic look to it.  About a year later, the gear and cockpit sets come out.  Here we go again.  I just bought the landing gear at the space coast regional and when the cockpit is back in stock, I'll get that too.

As a side note, I checked and they should have their 1/72 MKII ready next month.

You should have seen the new Raider they had.  Large, heavy box.  I believe they said it was 1/24.  Somewhat expensive, but  deffinately considering it.

Hi Ryan,

I am in AUstralia still, and havnt had a chance to catch up.. I must say that I havnt heard of that show back in Japan, so I will try and see if I can find it.. Most lead characters in Japanese anime are always teen agers for some reason?..

Also guys, I was cleaning house, and found some stuff that I might auction off.. But if you are interested in something then let me know!... Happy to go first in, first serve!..... I have stuff over at the trading forum on Starship Modeler.. Go check it out!

Cheers Chris

ha, the thoughts i kept to myself for the past months.... =P

On the topic of rugby, there was one episode of that japanese animation "Full Metal Panic Fumouffu" which had the main character (a 17year old mercenary... staying at a highschool for a mission that's too long to explain here)  training a squad of sissy rugby club players with military training method (and curses and taunts, which was censored out by beeps) that eventually made them into killing machines on the field, and giving the balls girly names (something out of the pages of that Kubrick movie "Full Metal Jacket").  It was pretty hilarious so I have to get it out of my head here...
