New Warhammer Strategy?
Posted by Matt90 on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 9:32 PM
Hello,
I am just starting to get into warhammer, and I was wondering about how much customization I can have. I am considering buying a 6 Tau tanks, and customizing them as follows:
2 Tank Destroyers- Big gun, smart missiles, sensor spines
3 "Duster" Anti-Infantry Tanks- Ion cannon, gatling gun, smart missiles, or, 2 gatling guns and ion cannon
1 Troop Escort- Big Gun, 2 gatling guns
Not sure how good these will be, or if is even possible to build them like this

Wait, make the T.E. a devilfish with gatling guns, no railgun

If I remember correctly (long time since I was into Warhammer), you can only use that ( for example 2 or 3 ) many tanks or heavy vehicles in a army. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

If you intend to use what you're planning to build for actually playing the game, I would check out a rulebook or ask a experienced Warhammer player.

I mean just to have, not use all at once. I think they can be modified into any type by use of detachable weapons. I have to check the Codex.

the Tau has weirda$$ rules.  seems like they can use those devilfish as transports for troops so it's equivalent to a mechanized transport instead of heavy support, similar to the IG's mechanized infantry with Chimeras (but of course chimeras are crap!)  I only field 3 leman russ tanks if i choose to leave the basilisk (long range barage) out.

Make sure you do keep track of point values.  A dominating army formation like that doesn't come cheap.  You are looking at an army with at least 2000 points and that's like a day worth of a game...  On average most people keeps their values at 1500 if not less.  I haven't played a game for 5 years and don't know much about the new Tau army, so do reference your rule book for them.
