My latest project(s)
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 6:40 AM
Well, I have just picked up an amt Star Trek VI USS Enterprise-A, and a Star Trek II Reliant.

I have just dry fitted the Reliant, and it is a beautifull design, and one of my favourites..

I have started on the secondary hull of the Enterprise, and I have puttied up the really bad fitting parts to make up the saucer.. But a fun build.. I did this kit when I was a kit, and I remember that it always fell apart... Mind you, I was about 8 then...

I built the PL 1/350 last year, and sold it for $200.. I have another one its way for me.. so I am not sure which one I will want to keep, and what to sell..

They do look like fun builds, Chris. Gotta love that Reliant. I still have my PL 350th under my bed.

I had thought about converting it to a Baker class destroyer, from the FASA designs. Are you going to light any

of these?

Thanks Steve.. No, I simply dont have the talent to light them.. But I have my Bandai kits for that purpose, so I will just do these as they are... Will keep you posted..

Here is a new update of my amt Enterprise-A.. It looks a little shiny at the momment, as I have sealed it with a gloss coat.. When the secondary hull is fully painted, decaled, and finished, I will then dull coat it with a flat finish, and give it a little weathering.. Will start on the Saucer tomorrow..

Thanks for the comments maxx.. The Reliant certainly will be azteced, and they are being built as a double set. Although the ENT-A wasnt in Star Trek II.. .. But it is not inteded to be a theme set.. Just two of my favourite design's together on a shelf..

I am taking the family home to Australia for 2 weeks, so this will be all I will get done before I leave, and will start again when I get back...

As for my choice of colour on the panelling.. I have always tried to get my Enterprises to look as they do on screen.. If you watch the movies, the panels are actually hard to see, and when you do, they are very light.. That is why I decided to go with the light grey.. I want it to be noticeable, but yet subtle.. I think it works well, and doesnt look as bright as some Enterprises I have seen.. I have both the Bandai Enterprise, and ENT-A, and they are a little colour excited to say the least..

As a side note.. Notice the Starfleet insignia on the side.. AMT printed it upside down.. So if you want the lettering correct, the insignia is upside down.. I didnt realise until way after I coated it..

I've always liked the Reliant best. Something very pleasing about its lines. I'll look forward to seeing this when your done. You and the family have a safe trip.

Thanks mate,

Actually I think I have started way too much.. And to make things worse, my daughter found an old Supergirl figure kit and decided that she wanted it for her, so I have spent this weekend doing that one for her.. Ahh, the joys of fatherhood...

He he he, she will turn 4 in October, but she already knows what she likes. And after seeing that her dad loves anything Superman, she wasnt going to be left behind.. She thinks that Supergirl is da bomb and no-one will tell her any different..

Chris, fantastic work!  I'm currently working on the same model of the "A" and wanted to know if you could give me some tips on the Aztecking and what you think is an accurate base color overall.
