TOS Samurai class Frigate
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 11:46 AM
I'm making an original star trek design, set in the old TV show era... I'm making it from the 22" cut-away kit. It's a single nacelle design, with an elongated nose and extended aft hull. Being a Frigate, it's primary role is combat support for it's company of marines.

Here's what it looks like, fitted together and awaiting a sanding.

I'm using a black primer to sand-off, to help see blemishes in the white putty, while the tougher, white primer is to see how pretty it looks.

The impulse engines are added, on each side of the aft-hull, the Dual turbo-shats are on the bridge, the B/C deck addition is done, and the sensor/deflector array is half-done.

That starship is coming along great! When do we get to see the finnished product? It's going to be sharp!

My bad. I spend most of my time at starshipmodeler.com.

Time to Decomission the USS Samauri! It's a single nacelled, TOS Era, Frigate. It's role is to land and support it's marine compliment. The last battle got a little hairy...

Breathtaking! You did a great job. Did you build it off of some plans or did you come up with it on your own? First rate work!Wink [;)]

Those are some outstanding ships. What will this new one be called?Just out of curiousity, why did you add the movie version sensor dome to the secondary hull instead of replacing the one on the bottom of the saucer with it. Is it for use after a hull separation? It looks great but I'm just curious.

This kit once again totally impressed me! Very fine work on an interesting and unusual ship of the fleet. :)

Thank You. It's an original design. My original idea was to make a TOS era Remora-class Escort, from the Fasa game.

The Hull isn't intended to seperate. It's a little, mass produced frigate and lacks some of the bells ans whistles that a nice, Constitution Class Cruiser has.

The TMP-era sensor is a a Planetary Sensor, specifically for supporting ground operations.

I had planned to give it four TMP/style phaser banks, but research showed that in the original TV show, the ring around the bottom sensor (on the primary hull) was refered to as the 'phaser turret". That explains the lack of obvious weapons.

Hey Woozle, Which Fasa game are you referring to? I used to play a game by Task Force Games called Star Fleet Battles. Is it anything like that game do you know?

FASA's starship combat game is totally different, from SFB. SFB went the direction of complexity, while FASA's game went the direction of playability.. but had more interesting movie-era designs.

Maybe, this weekend, I'll take better photos. quicky, Digital camera pics make you lazy, heh. I might also do a little detail tweaking.

Very cool link Woozle! I think that looks like my kind of game. I know what you are saying about the complexity of SFB, I have all three Commanders rule books! I'm looking forward to the additional pics! Any other cool sites that showcase ST models?
