yeah that stuff works pretty good for simulating smoke stains like the stains found around wing guns and the wing root gun on the F-15. plus its pretty good for exhaust stains around the engines on WWII aircraft. It is actually called a clear Smoke Gray so as far as I know it won't overpower the look of decals.

don't you mean Tamiya Smoke Gray. I've got enough of that to last me a while

For me, I prefer to lay down a matt black first, and then I lightly go over it with a spray of grey..

If you leave some of the black exposed, it makes the lines stand out more.. Takes a little practice, but not difficult..

I think I used smokey grey on my B-Wing..

I painted mine(B-wing) eons ago with camo grey or some such color out of a Testors rattle can. I know the color is supposed to be lighter but I kinda liked how it turned out:

As far as scorch marks use pastel chalk or drybrush black streaks lightly.

Go to the forums on starshipmodeler.com there are lots of star wars posts there, you may find the info you need. I just did the Tie interceptor and painted it intermediate blue and it came out very nice. I am doing an amt x-wing but painting it to match a flying tigers P-40. I just didn't like how it turned out in an overall gray paint scheme. Good Luck

I just got these kits and would like to know the best way to paint them for one thing I don't like the looks of white spaceships since in the movies the A-wing and the B-wing appeared gray and what would be the best method for reproducing blaster scorch marks.
