building the Cooper Consular ship
Posted by stipp on Thursday, September 7, 2006 4:10 PM

Howdy folks! I`m going to post this build up of the Randy Cooper rebel blockade runner from episode 4, Mr. Cooper is very talented and has worked on quite a few movies.
JV has a similar thread on the RPF and i did not want to hijack his thread so i started my own on this forum, i hope you dont mind.
I waited approximatly 7 weeks for this ship to arrive and waited 29 yrs for someone to make one into a kit.
This kit has its faults and i will get into it soon enough, There are a plethora of parts to begin with, a lot of detail and greeblies, my kit came with the clear engine parts as a freebie i guess, which arent needed because I`m not going to light it, the scale should work up to be 1/216 ?
The bad about this one is that quite a few parts are so thin that i had to epoxie styrene sheet under it to add stregnth to it, there are bubbles and quite a few pin holes, and a lot of missing/broken fins that i will have to replace.
there is evidence of mold shifting and missing detail that just did not mold right, this thread is by NO means a representation of all of Randys work!
Randy has been casting this ship for quite a few MONTHS! and is bound to make a few mistakes! By far this kit is damn near perfect compared to some of the garage kits out there that just sends you a blob of resin and says this is what it is!
But anyhoo, i will be posting all progress on this and hope everyone will chime in with questions about it! this kit is well worth the money spent and when Randy gets ready with his next project, i will be first in line to buy it!!

Here are some progress pics for ya, I have finished the main turbo lasers and had to replace the barrel with some tubing and the tips of the barrels for the secondary guns too, and i replaced the pipes with tubing and solder where there wasnt any, and the escape pods are cleaned up and finished.
The other photo is of the main hull, and you can see there is a lot of sun light shining through, it was so thin my daughter put her finger through it, so I pushed it back and epoxied some sheet styrene to give it strength, like i said it was no problem to correct any of these and no skin off my back.

I saw one of these kits at our last club meeting and it was in several LARGE ziplock bags. ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY gorgeous. I didnt get TOO close to the resin, but man it was quite a job casting it all up and making sure you have ALL the parts in the box before it goes out.

I cant wait to see the in-progress on this one!!

must have set you back a hundred bucks for a ship that size so what next buy the Star Destroyer Avenger in the same scale so you can display the Blockade runner in the docking bay?

On the workbench: Dragon 1/350 scale Ticonderoga class USS BunkerHill 1/720 scale Italeri USS Harry S. Truman 1/72 scale Encore Yak-6

Hey people! i here to give you all an update on the RBR,first off the radar is completed, i have checked all of the "fins' and came up one of them did not forn right so i must recast one of them, on the rear engine support that connects to the secondary hull, I replaced all of the fins on it because they all were broken off, also in the pics youll see one part of the primary hull has a few blobs and holes in it and in the other you see i had to put bondo in it to fill them, in the primary hull bottom piece, there as you can see is about a quarter inch of resin that I will have to grind and sand off, and now off to the pics!

well I guess you can't hang that from the ceiling and you would need a room of its own to hold it (dang thing is bigger than my Trumpeter Nimitz for crying out loud!)  and wasn't the Radiant VII about the same diameter as the Millenium Falcon but about the length of about 1 and 1/2 Millenium Falcons?

The radiant vii was kinda large like the RBR, and thats why Mr Cooper is doing it in about the same scale, the R7 had a large salon hull underneath the cockpit and a large crews quartes aft of the front fuselage, the episode 1 cutaway book shows it better.

so are you saying that the R7 that landed in the landing bay of the Trade Federation droid control ship in Episode 1 was the same size as the Corelian Corvette (or RBR) from Episode 4?

These are the latest pics with the engines and the fins attached, all thats left is, paint and weathering, it will be primered in gray and then painted in grime color, like a dirty white same as the Millenium Falcon. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Stipp08/100_0241.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Stipp08/100_0240.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Stipp08/100_0239.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Stipp08/100_0238.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Stipp08/100_0237.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v602/Stipp08/100_0236.jpg

Just a small update, no pics but... just to let you all know that I took a small break in working on the RBR.
My engine inserts finally came in and I was able to complete the assembly!!
I am thinking of applying some putty to the "fins" to fill in any gaps and to make the corners smoooooth.
if you have any questions just hollar

And here we are again! More updated pics of the Consular ship, more and more i am thinking of converting her to the episode6 variant, with the windows and the extra turbo lasers, now if anyone knows what these come from just let me know!! Now on to the pic

update people!

I used the grime and did a mixture of 1 oz of grime and 1/4 oz of white, and came up with this color, the plain white was too bright even after some weathering so I knew that straight grime was too dark, and yes you can see some of thered color and others showing through so I need to redo it, and one of he pics is of my FMMF that is painted with straight grime color BUT with gray primer, the RBR had white primer and then the grime white paint.
