Warhammer 40K Ultra Marines Predator Destructor MBT "Punio"

Well here is the finished result, finally. I spent a couple of enjoyable weeks building and painting this Warhammer model. The base is a temporary one as I could not get the diorama base built in time for WASMEx 2006 (Western Australian Model Expo)

I have to replace a dead light for my photo set-up so asked the WASMEx photographer to snap a couple of pics for me. I am really proud to say I took gold at WASMEx (SF vehicles and Spacecraft division) this year with my Ultramarines Predator.

For those who are not familiar with Warhammer 40K, it is a incredibly rich table top minatures game set in humanity's far future. In the 41st millenium the Imperium of man occupies a million plus worlds throughout the galaxy and is besieged on all sides by hostile aliens, the forces of chaos and ancient beings of immense power. In this era, the God Emperor of man - encased in stasis on the Golden Throne of Terra, is the only light of hope.

The Imperium of man's defenses fall in the most part to the Imperial Guard, a billions strong army that takes the fight to the enemy. But the sharp end of the Imperium's military might are the Adeptus Astartes (Space Marines), genetically enhanced super warriors that are conditioned to destroy the enemies of mankind, striking out from their fortress monastaries. There are 1000 chapters of Space Marines, each consisting of 1000 marines and their equipment.

Anyway, enough babbling. So here is my Space Marines (Ultramarines chapter) Predator Destructor MBT. The Destructor's role is infantry support and fire suppression, while it's more powerful sibling, the Annihilator with it's twin linked las cannon, hunts tanks.

Painted with Citadel and Vallejo acrylics and sealed off with Pollyscale flat, this is my first SF model in a long time and it was an easy, enjoyable build.

I have more to build and paint now as my oldest son Doug and a mate have convinced me to go back to Warhammer 40K gaming.

Hope you like it!

that's a neat build.  and congrats on getting a award with it.  most people tend to go crazy with the drybrushing, that they just literally drew a white line on the edges, yet yours is a lot more subtle.  how did you finish that imperial eagle in the front?  bleached bone with ink , or something some "bubonic brown" (i love these names...)  drybrushed with bleached bone?

Thanks for the kind words.

I am a model aircraft and armour builder at heart and am not into that over highlighted look that 'eavy metal sometimes espouses.

The aquila was based in flat black and dry brushed heavily with burnished gold. Then I applied a wash of brown ink and then drybrushed lightly with a 50/50 mix of burnished gold and mithril silver.

The images taken look a little bright as the aquila is much more golden in real life.

Hi Chris

Been a busy lad workwise and home life has been equally so. Plus a stint in hospital for an operation :(

How is everything going for you?

cheers and thanks for the kind words about the Predator!
