1/100 scale Gyan - kit bash

well I thought I came up with the brilliant idea but it turned out that few modellers in Japan thought the same thing already... ^ ^

what I'm talking about is the similarities between MG Master Gundam and Gyan.
even though the details aren't similar overall they have the similar profile especially when painted in similar colour scheme.

---

all this started when I get hold of MG Master Gundam missing its head, hands and pretty much broken wings(?). However apart from those the rest of body was in very good shape minus few odd stickers and what not. given it was from 12 yo I think it's surprising the rest of body didn't suffer any major damage like wings.

anyway I have this one in my junk box a while and every time I see it been thinking of the way to salvage the body. that was until I came across the picture of action shots on dalong.net and it occurred to me that it kind of look like Gyan minus head and wings. and when I have two photos side by side I could see the similarities...

so I stripped off the wing attachments and get hold of the old 1/100 Gyan kits parts - mainly head and backpack plus shield and sword. and then missus returned from the trip and the family took the priority and the whole thing was put into the back burner. I, however, managed to do some quick sanding/priming and painting the body w/ decaling figuring if I don't have the main body done now I may not have time to finish it for a long time.

it still lacks the head, backpack and hands. I have 1/100 parts so putting together head and backpack would be easy but the hands is bit of challenge. it seems only things suitable I have in my junk box is couple of MG Zaku hands with fixed fingers. I could put these on but I won't be able to get it hold its sword. and if I'm going to mod the hand to hold the sword which means chopping of finger sections and reglue with wires in for the support - well I might as well make the working manipulators then. ^ ^  yea I know it's easier to say than done.

[update] Now new hands are done and so is the shield. For the sword I'm yet to decide whether to just build the part out of old 1/100 kit or scratch build one in style of lancer rather than sword... If I'm ended up scratch build the lancer it'd be a long time before I can post the final shots (though the thing is all finished minus sword and some final weathering.)

Good eye DJ. You have a link to a good article on the manipulators I have always wanted to try that. I had never paid any attention to the Gyan suit before today. I would check some of those cheap actions figures you you find in dollars stores for a good sword and those cheap fantacy figures they sell at BigLots. I saw a sweet looking "beam sabre" blade yesturday with one of those figs. Looked similar to the blade on the sword of Gundam Epyon but much meaner looking...

cheers mate ^ ^
I've been looking for one of those figurine myself.
I'm after the lancer of sort in close scale - a lot easier than full scratch build one myself. (I won't mind the full scratching but due to family life I don't get the enough time nowadays..)

Hmmm, a lance that might be trickier to find... I'd keep an eye out for those plastic champaigne (sp?) glasses. The base is similar to lance, you might be able to do a simple scratch out of one of those those. I beleive they sell some mini champaigne glasses/party favors at the Dollar Tree if they have one of those in your area. Just cut the top off and eleongate the shaft with some old sprue or something similar. Sand the diameter down on the round bottom to taste. Just a thought...lol

The only kit lances I can think of is one of those F-91 kits that had one with a pistol grip and maybe in a couple of of the SD [super deformed]kits...
