What's a good gray for Aztec on NX-01?
Posted by djrost_2000 on Monday, October 30, 2006 10:28 PM

I just picked up a 1/1000 scale NX-01 to build as a gift for a friend.  I bought the tiny masks for the Aztec scheme and am wondering what is a good shade of gray to use for it?  based on the box art I would say a Dark Gull Gray, but seeking suggestions.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave.. I havn't built an NX, but know a few that have. And although it has some grey on it, you may need to do some research on the colours. You will find that they are actually like gunmetal silver, silver and gold.. Just depends on how you decide to do the aztec.. I would have a bit more of a look around before starting. She is a complex little beast the NX.. Try SSM ect for reference..  Also, you should enter it in our new group build!

Thanks Chris for the reply.  I'll check out SSM sometime.  This model is so small and the Aztec masks are really tiny.  If it weren't for the Aztec scheme this kit would be done in an afternoon!  It should be well worth the effort as I think the scheme looks cool.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

I used Aztec Dummy's vinyl masks when I did mine. They worked great! As for the colors, I believe they were Model Master's Metalizer Aluminum (non buffing) and Stainless Steel. I think it turned out pretty well.

Look on Polar Light's site.  There is a color guide somewhere. Wait maybe it is on the instructions of the 1/350.  I can look at my instructions and see.  I think it is silver, aluminium and gunmetal, but I'm not sure where the colors go.

Edit-The three colors used are Aluminiu, Steel, and Gun Metal in that order from lightest to darkest.  Want me to scan the pattern?

The aluminum, steel to gunmetal looks right based on the reference pictures I have of the NX-01.  Thanks for the help.

Thank you,

Dave
