Think the rise in intrest could be partially due to the new PL kit? After reading about them and seeing a couple finished I sure want one.

I have been a member of other Sci-fi modeling boards for years now. I feel that more interaction here might attract the interest of the more "serious" modelers to what we have been doing in our little group. There have been some really neat things happening in the "garage" market with both technique and technology.

Absolutely, cobywan.
There is certainly a lot of great stuff out there, and a lot of great people puttin' it together.

From what I've seen on paper pages and web pages, it has to be the most reviewed sci-fi kit (if not any kit) in scale modeling history. I've seen it appear on a few sites that, as far as I know, have never or rarely deal with sci-fi kits.

I do recall the last time an American model company released any new Star Trek kits - the Enterprise E, C, or the last 3 piece set - they too recieved a lot of press and reviews from various sites.

Clearly Polar Lights has captured a market.

Sci-Fi model builders have always been out there, just give 'em a forum and see what they stir up.
