You're right. They both offer their own challenges & I too think the retro look of the NX-01

is pretty awesome! The kit itself.

I don't envy you bud (well, maybe a little).

Tough decisions. They're both sharp looking kits, each with their own challenges.

Wish I could get the NX-01. I really like that retro bare metal look. I think it really captured a "Expiremental Space Exploration" look.

Good luck man! Let us know what you decide!

Hey Mike, I can believe that!! LoL... I too have seen so many builds on here (&other boards) and think to myself. Dang, that's sharp!! I gotta try this or that & then in the end, I get so confused & go back to looking around for more ideas!!Banged Head [banghead]

Gotta hand it to Chris & Raist, they do good workTongue [:P] I can only hope to do 1/2 as good as them.

It'll be a little while before I tackle this one. I may wind up doing it before I take on the NX-01.

ROFLMAO!!!

Dude! I've changed my mind so many times since I started the refit. There are so many great threads and build pics out there... Everytime I look around it's like "oh that's cool.. I'm gonna do it THAT way!!". Chris_in_Japan and Raist3001 are EVIL!! They're builds are just TOO good. Everytime I look at their pics, I get a new idea (new Ideas=new spending LOL).

My Big can of Gloss White from home depot was just barely enough to cover my refit. Definitely get more than you think you'll need!!

Yes,  have the 1/350 NX-01 in my stash but, I have yet to attend to her. She's a monster my friend & the aztec pattern is the only thing that scares meSigh [sigh] I am looking to find the Refit to keep her company tho.

I also have the 1/1000 PL Enterprise in my to-do pile and from whay I've seen & read on her, she's a good kit  as well.

Hey Ed, I noticed in Chris's postings that you were talking about an NX-01 you were building... Hows that coming along? Would you recommend it? I'm thinking that if I can find one I'd like to build it.. It's my 2nd fave Enterprise...

And now that PL is done and gone, I gotta jump on it if I get a chance....

Also.. Do you guys recommend the 1/1000 TOS Enterprise?

                      Thanks!

You sound just like me. You model what ever takes your fancy.. I am the same way, I will, and do model in all subjects.. I find just doing one thing kinda boring..

So get settled here with us guys, and feel free to show your progress of your work as you go.. The guys here are honest, yet constructive. They are only out to help, and will always help when they can!

Hi again,

I just recently moved to Las Vegas.

Started modeling back in my young'un days, and started getting back into it (in fits and starts) about 2 years ago. Woulda gone whole hog then, but real life got in the way. Biggest thing I've noticed is how much better my models come out since I learned patience (I'm in my 40's now).

As far as what I build goes, I'll build pretty much anything, as long as it's a subject I like. Currently finishing up the Revell 1/96 USS Constitution (standing Rigging done... now the real work begins), and, of course, starting the Enterprise.

I was intimidated by the Constitutuion because of the rigging.. But JEEZ!! This Enterprise is really a monster!! With all the options, add-ons and whatnot that can be done with it, it can really get your head spinning!!

My next project (after the Enterprise) will probably be a Batman figure. I've seen a couple kits that look awfully nice. "Birth of a legend" in particular has got my attention.

Anyway.. Sorry for flying off topic :)

                                Talk to ya soon!

                                             Mike

You can get primer in the model paints , but, the rattle cans is usually alot cheaper. I pretty much use Krylon primer.

Where are you located at? And, how long you been away from the hobby?

Here's a good place to get an A/B

Hi Ed!

Thanks for the welcome! So, subassemblies, with an airbrush... Ok. I was gonna have to get one anyway I guess, since I seem to have rediscovered modeling (Woohoo!!).

One more question.. When it comes to primer... Rattle-can or airbrush it on? Does primer come in anything besides rattle-cans?

                               Thanks!!

1st off,...Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums. Now it is recommended that you use an airbrush when it comes to the large kits such as the 1/350 PL Refit. It's alot of painting especially with a brushWhistling [:-^] It would be easier IMHO to paint in sub assemblies. Chris_in_Japan has done the Refit and it's posted here in the Sci-Fi forums along witha few others.

Do get yourself an airbrush as it'll make life a littler easier....

PL 1/350 Refit procedures?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 2, 2006 10:45 AM

Hi all!

Long time lurker, first time posting...

I'm getting ready to start my Enterprise, and would like some advice...

1. Procedure: Should I Paint everything first and then assemble, Do sub assemblies and then paint or assemble everything and then paint?

2. I don't have an airbrush (yet). How necessary is an airbrush to be succesful with this model? I'm thinking it depends on the procedure I follow.. is that correct?

Those are my biggest questions.. any other advice or helpful hints will be greatly appreciated!

                           Thank you!!
