Hi Ed!

   Long time no write!

Yep, researchin the heck out of it. As far as this particular question goes, I found a string on another Forum (Hobbytalk I think), that discussed this very issue and the consensus seems to be that A glosscoat/clearcoat will erase the effect.

So now... I've got gloss white (cheapy home depot stuff) down as the base and am applying the Aztec Dummy masks (TEDIOUS STUFF, but looks frikkin COOL). Once that's all on, I'll put a coat of Tamiya Insignia White over the top. This should give me a slight grey color overall, with the aztecing in white. Then Glosscoat/Decal/Dullcoat.

I'll borrow a Digital Camera once the insignia white goes on, so you (and everyone else) can see how it turns out.

Bet your looking forward to building yours huh?

Hey Mike,

I see you're doing your research on this one! That's good. There are alot of threads here on the refit and, I believe Chris_in_Japan had done a good bit of explanations on his refit not to mention the aztec on the  1701 TOS enterprise.

I would shoot a coat of Future or glosscoat before decaling then the dullcoat afterwards.

shouldn't be too much equalization there.

Question about Aztecing
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 21, 2006 7:14 AM

Hi folks,

I'm getting ready to start the aztecing on my PL Refit and have a question regarding the Aztecing...

I'm going to use Gloss White as a base, apply the Aztec Dummy templates, then spray overall with Flat White. I figure this will give me a nice subtle Aztecing, which is what I'm after.

Here's my question: After all the parts are painted, should I Gloss coat for Decals, then Dullcoat, or will the glosscoat/dullcoat erase the aztecing effect due to "equalizing" the shine?

                               Thanks in advance!

                                                         Mike
