Your First Sci-Fi kit?

I remember mine. It was the old AMT Star Trek K-7 Space Station that was featured in the episode "Trouble with Tribbles."

When I was 6 I built the AMT Galileo Shuttlecraft. Model came out ok. BUT I plunged the WHOLE decal sheet in water, and found myself in a little race against time[:0]

Mine was the K-7, too! Now I get nostalgic when I see it on ebay. This kit was followed closely by the Vulcan Shuttle, a Colonial Viper, and the Galactica. I remember only painting a few details on each but, when you're a kid, even this small accomplishment seems huge. I played with those ships for hours at a time...

Whoa...the earliest I can recall is the ooooold AMT Enterprise with lights...I must have been 7 years old or so. Pop had to help me out! My main recollection is the warp nacelles never staying on, and black wires sticking out from somewhere!

Funny how Star Trek is ruling this thread so far!

Don't know if ya'll consider this "science fiction," but my first of many attempts at Aurora's Godzilla predates the Enterprise Incident by a coupla years, at least.

Mine was also the original enterprise. IF you managed to keep the nacell supports from breaking they always ended up skewed like the nacells on the constellation in "coomsday machine". I bet I tried a hundred rubber bands to try and get those straight!

Mine was Aurora's "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" Seaview. i built it on a metal TV tray at my parents' house. The model's long-gone, but I still have the coral-reef display base. Maybe I'll install my Polar Lights kit on it...

Mine was the Dragon kit from the Shogun Warriors line of "Monogram" kits. They were actually Bandai kits. And for 1979 era models they were very nice. But Bandai has certainly come a long way since then.

The TOS Enterprise ordered from a Johnson Smith catalog. I had been looking around all the stores that sold models but it could not be found anywhere. I was about 10 years old and painted it with a cotton swab with two different shades of blue (I ran out of one shade and just took another bottle of a blue).

Wow, that's a toughie...I guess the first would be the original issue Aurora Seaview (which I still have). After that, AMT TOS Enterprise (again original issue with lights) which again I still have. Though NOT in the best of condition. After that all those Aurora kits like most of us built. The rest, as they say is styrene history....

Mine was a Viper. I painted the engine exhausts in glow in the dark. Then a cylon raider, and an X-wing. Those were the days. Maybe I'll build the Viper I just bought next.

The closest I came to actually doing a true "sci-fi" kit was the KITT from Knight Rider. It was pretty futuristic... I remember painting the displays with white-out. Hey, I was young!

Yet another for the original starship Enterprise. With the lights in the nacelles (sagging nacelles, that is) and the top and bottom of the saucer section. Turn the deflector dish housing to activate the lights, hoping you didn't knock off that fragile dish!
Didn't have to worry about the batteries going dead, the thing would fall apart long before that happened. Blush [:I]I was ten years old, and Star Trek was my life!

Mine was the old Aurora "Invaders UFO" kit. I understand it's going to be rereleased by Polar Lights soon.

Mine was also the first kit I ever built, though my dad helped. When I was about 6 he bought the Eagle from Space:1999. I still remember working on it together in the living room.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I bought an extra Eagle when the kit was re-issued a few years back. I'll help my son build it sometime next year.

Monogram has reissued this kit along with the VTTBOTS Flying Sub several times in the past. The latest being 1996-97 time frame. I remember these old 1/72 scale Aurora sci-fi kits and have the Sub, UFO and now the Polar Lights Spindrift. Great kits. It's also neat to see that there were other firsts besides Star Trek.

AMT - TOS Enterprise.

My Dad bought it from the local Meijer's store in about 1972. We built it together. First model.

I suppose my first was the Revell Moonship (I think that is what it was called). Long gone now I think. It had a fully detailed interior and the canopy would go down flush with the fuselage. Now that would be about 40 years ago I suspect!!!

Hi all, been registered for a while and i'm an avid reader of the posting boards, just thought i'd introduce my self by answering this post. My first was the old IMAI thunderbird 2 kit (the one in green plastic with red legs and a removable pod) which i swiftly stuck together and stickered up ready for playing with without a care for paint or tarting up (seems oh so sacriligeous these days!). Great memories of some great kits, lets hope all the molds get re-tooled and the kits sold at reasonable prices!

X-Wing fighter. Spilled water on the decal sheet. Tried to paint on the red stripes. Spilled gloss red Testors enamel on the mantle. Butt was gloss red after pop saw it. Played with the model 'til the wings broke off. Glued the wings on a 79 Corvette. Used it to chase Lord Vader and his imperial Barracuda around the House Galaxy for years.

The models I could take or leave, It's my childhood imagination I miss the most.
