Ferengi Marauder, Restoring a casting from the studio model
Posted by REL on Thursday, March 1, 2007 1:15 PM
This is a piece I made for a client that was cast from the original studio molds. I was hired to repair the original casting, then mold and cast clear fiberglass shells that could be built up and lit.

Here's how it came to me. It had a really bad crack on the bottom, and a flaw in the casting.

You can see the crack and flaws on the left side here, my daughter is holding it.

Here's after the repair, I cast parts and pieces from the other side, and also went to a hobby shop and bought replacement details that went on the bottom, most of them being train parts.

After the repairing the original I made a mold and cast it in clear fiberglass.

Here's a pic of the clear casting.

And the completed build up.

The finished piece is 37" long.

Here's some pics of the base I made for it.

Propeller [8-]  The Trekkie in me is running in happy circles at the sight of it.  I always like the lines of the Ferengi ships.  They are quiet preditors and it shows.

Heya

Very Sweet and at the same time " Damn that is Huge !" . I would not mind ya giving out the colors used on this toy. I am going to be building the 3 ship advesary kit from AMT soon ( sorry about my bad spelling ). I have the colors for the BoP and the Warbird but not for the Ferrengi ship.

Thank you, I don't mind sharing the colors.

I used acrylic "reefer orange" by Pollyscale for the base color. Then mixed in "Oily Black" by Polyscale for the darker panels, then added more of the black for the weathering. I also mixed in some acrylic white for the lighter weathering.
