The " Mercury Class" battlestar is almost twice the size of the old Galactica, with half the crew. ( not quite a quote from "pegasus" )

I mean heck 1/32 is huge enough. I haven't personally seen a 1/32 scale Viper but I heard they are huge. 1/24 scale heck I think you would just be safe displaying it on the dining room table.

IIRC, I put a 1/32 Viper together back in the 80's, it didn't seem that big then,

The Beast is bigger than the G.

well the TOS Galactica seems bigger than the New Series Galactica or is that the Pegasus?

you should probably go with a 1/32 scale MKII Viper instead of the 1/24 scale idea seeing as the ones released in the past by Monogram were 1/32 scale and would keep it a constant scale then follow up with a MKVII Viper in 1/32 scale and probably a Raptor too.

And since the Colonial Viper will be making a return trip to store shelves pretty soon later this Summer I think (Revell/Monogram ReReRelease) a 1/32 scale MKII Viper would make a nice companion piece.

Am I to understand that you will have a cockpit right?

You talkin to me?

I like large scale models and I think it would be interesting to have something in a scale that everyone can identify with. Why would I  want to do what everyone else is doing, or do what is in scale with something like an old repop? The new BSG is big and I want to make something that people can be proud to display. I like 1/24th and 1/25th because of the size. Think about it. What would you rather display on your coffee table, mantle, or end table?

Do I have a cockpit.....? You mean will the ship have a cockpit? Yes, it will.

Yes, I'll be making a 4' Galactica, follwed closely by a Pegasus and hopefully a 1/24th Viper MKII with extras and go fasters. I've got the plans and have been working on the preliminary set-up. Will post pics soon.

I'll weather it to a certain degree, but not go to the season 3 shot-up look. I'll probably screen cap alot of pics before I make up my mind.

The Beast looks a little lighter. I just got mine in the mail today, I'll post some pics soon.

Well pretty much the colors that JR used on the New Series Galactica are just about spot on with the TOS G now lets see how he does with the Revell/Monogram rerelease of the BSG line.

now with the New Series Galactica it is a dark colored ship almost black in areas though as I said before it could also be a burnt metal shade seeing as it reflects light in some areas. Now weathering such a beast you could probably get away with using rust to simulate carbon scoring from missile impacts and pepper the hull strategically in areas to simulate autocannon strikes.

Its hard to tell exactly what colors are best with the harsh "lighting" of the on-screen ship. The TOS G was more of a light grey.

If I am not mistaken those are the BattleStar Galactica "Original Series" colors the new Galactica is more of a all Black ship or at least a burnt metal color.

Thanks!  These are the colors called out for in the directions, memory serves correctly, it was painted overall in Gunship Grey, clear coated and decaled.  Then washed with an acylic black wash and dry brushed with Light Ghost Grey.  It was all done in Model Master Enamels with the exception of the wash, that is my special blend... 2/3 Future, 1/3 Isopropol Alchohol then a drop of dishsoap and then drops of Tamiya Flat Black.  I usually add about 6 drops for a 3/4 oz jar, but you can darken or lighten to your taste.

Birdman,

Try Fantastic Plastic: http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/2000_pop_culture.htm
They carry a growing range of kits from the new series.

Federation Models: http://www.federationmodels.com/
They also carry several kits from a variety of manufacturers.

Hope this helps,
