[updated]Wappa progress pics
Posted by PatlaborUnit1 on Sunday, March 25, 2007 8:47 PM

I have been working on my 1/35 Bandai Wappa from UC Hardgraph.  So far my only work done on it has been while I am watching Adult Swim  (theres no Anime Network here,....sigh...) so I only have working on it while watching TV in the living room. So far quality and fit is excellent, I have only used a touch of filler where the floor plates meet the side supports. The instrument panel was enhanced with some stretched sprue detail, and I plan on adding a LOT more stuff to this kit.

While fit and detail are great, some of the parts are dubious. There is a small item that mounts to the upright frame for the overhead "antenna"  that looks like it COULD be a sports bottle, or small fire extenguisher. Another looks like it COULD be a small flashlight on the side of the intrument coaming, while the most perplexing (to me anyway) are the odd shaped cannisters that are not even shown in the instructions, but are shown painted with the gear on the back color profile. Any ideas what these are ? They remind me of old Army murmite food cannisters (BLECK! green eggs!!!) I plan on raiding all that WWII German stuff I have to enhance this, as well as Adlers Nest MG barrel.

Jeff

Will you be going to the Nats? Im going to try to catch up with the Fresno krewe (as they seem to spell it down here in La) while I'm there.

I found some SUPER butt kicking photos of one of these folded for transport in the back of a heavily modified truck, with two figures and the MS06 head from the Recon set that has fallen and taken out a bridge span. From the looks of the scan here the back of the two small Wappa engines have been used on the truck headache rack (with the power supply cord coming off of one of them?) and the screen has been added as well as the obvious folding.  I plan mods myself, but more of the nature of of equipment, added water can, etc.

These are scans from a magazine, not sure which one, but simply incredible work!

David, I would love to go to the Nats but the company I work for was aquired by another company in January and we are going through a bit of a transition phase, I don't think I can make it but I sure want to.

As far as those magazine pics, Yowza! Nice build, that's a great find :)

Ok, it has been a long time, too long in fact that this project remained idle. The main reason I abandoned it so many moons ago was because I was unable to come up with a proper paint scheme. I found a Brit Honey scheme with blue on tan paint and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

So, I am now ready to paint in the morning.

Mods: added brass screen to inlets; added spare tank components, but avoiding the PanzerIV in space phenomenon*think repurposed parts* added minor PE vents to the front of the cowling, added detail parts from sprue to the instrument panel. replaced MG34 barrel with Adlers nest high detail barrel (WOW!); made an antenna mount on the aft left thrust cone for a crowsfoot antenna, cast resin copies of highlighter pen cap centers and added these to the front of the "intakes" on the "engine" as Trop filters; added wiring and clamps to the forward light assembly, and added a similar, but smaller light to the aft thruster cone with associated wiring and clamps.  Drilled out minor detail for added interest, and added strip stock here and there to add texture; replaced the small sphere on top of the radio antenna rack with a much larger part, that looks like a ball socket with attached machine gun, probably from a 1/35 tank. Looks the part now. Some kind of tank part, sort of looks like a track part, to be bolted to the aft side thruster cone support, a la tank spare track links. again, repurposed...for my vehicle it is part of a self-recovery set.

Still to be added after paint: Waldron 1/32 seat belt parts onto homemade belts, modified WWII tank parts ath I cannot identify, but look purposeful, a modified German water can (well it will be when I am done with it) some kind of storage pouches, that look the part and fit correctly where needed after modification ; the large crowsfoot antenna, new tarps (*partly to help offset the weight of the machien gun which pulls the radio rack down in front)

I probably wont use much of the stock decals, using instead some aftermarket units I have for variety and interest.

I will upload pics when I can, I'm having a bit of trouble getting them from my camera to the new computer...they dont like each other.

Nice. Been awhile since you posted on this one, neh? Wink [;)]

I like the stowed one in the truck. I had not thought of putting screens over the front and rear intakes; seems like an obvious modification now.

Pictures please. Big Smile [:D]

i will try to get some tonight . the weather here has cleared and I need to determine how I will lay out the grey/blue on top of the Afrkia tan.   Not being an armor guy, and only using modern US colors previously, I'm digging this afrika tan color! i mixed Sand into it and faded it out, may go back with a bit of dark again and punch in some shadows...

Everything has had a day to dry now so it should be ready for more paint tonight, a la the Brit Honey tank that has the tan and blue paint scheme.

ok, as promised here are the pics . I took them at work in my cube, so the lighting is terrible.

you can see in some of the detail shots the mods I have made and parts I have added. This helps the overall look and feel of the unit. Color is Afrika tan and azure blue.
