Veritech fighter color ideas
Posted by Redfinger on Monday, April 2, 2007 12:24 AM

So I just picked up 2 veritech fighters, one is the standard "Roy Folker", and the other is the Super Veritech, or the one that has the booster pack on the back.  I will probably build one as the infamous "Skull 1" but I am not sure on the other...I am not a big fan of the white color of these planes..I was thinking of something like a two tone grey/white or even a olive drab/white??

Not really to sure, just wanted to see if there was any supporting fluff that anyone knew of that supports different color schemes?

 thanks,

Ashton

If you want to do any of the major characters' birds, then it will be white with the appropriately coloured highlight, with two exceptions - the all blue ("Max type") and the all red ("Millia type") birds.

eg. http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/models/bandai/ban_505200i1.jpg

The "generic" ones (ie. cannon fodder "VF-1A" model aircraft) were basically tan and white

If you want a splash of colour, then you might try the "Angel Birds" Display team scheme

Otherwise, you can just go nuts and do any scheme you like. Smile [:)]

Yeah I know about the color themes from the orig series...and none really appealed to me too much...I have been doing a bit of research over on robotech.com and I have found out some interesting stuff about the veritech fighters!

The VF-1S model that I am building, the orginal "Skull One" was the very first full operation veritech ever made.  Accoarding to the Macross timeline the "skull one" was the only VF-1S to survive the macross series..there were only about 12 or so ever built, most were destroyed in the battle of the first episode.  That being said I think I may make up a ficitonal squardron/color scheme...some intial ideas, The "Wolf Pack" dark grey colors w/ lighter accents, and a wolf's head on the tail.  The "Red Devils", darker red colors, maybe black accents.  "Dirty Dozen" olive drab colors w/ white underbellies.  Of course al these names are stolen from other famous groups in military history, but I thought it might be fun..

The other idea I saw as I was reading was a stealth, or speacial ops veritech, a dark color would suit that idea well too.

I will definetly post some pics when I have made some progress!

Well, the suggestions I offered were from the original show and actually appeared on the screen.

What you are talking about in the above post is a fictional back story to a fictional cartoon series, so pretty much anything is possible. You could paint your model any way you like and no-one could tell you it's wrong.

I like your suggestions for 'alternate' squadrons.

however, I would strongly suggest you avoid Olive Drab as that is a very ugly color.

also, I would paint them pale grey (FS 16473 ?) not white.

I think the Macross stuff tends to look good no matter what it's wearing. I did one of mine in camo with polish markings, actually it's not quite done yet but I'm tryin' :)  I only have a progress shot but if you like Olive drab I'd say go for it!

The red and white VF-1J looks alot like the red Zeta Gundam at a glance..

Cheers,

If you have a PS2 or Gamecube the Robotech: Battlecry game had some interesting patterns, including a "Wolf Squadron" and "Stealth."

Is the kit one of the old Imai or Arii versions, or one of the newer Hasegawa kits?  Hasegawa has some good references and variants on their box art.

As for an original scheme, if you like it, go for it.  I had one transforming VF-1 kit years ago that I did up in EuroI Gray base with the EuroI Dark Green in the traditional places for trim.  I liked the contrast and it was a fun change from the bright colors commonly used for anime mecha.

I agree, the marine two tone was a great idea. I'd love to see the stealth version from robotech battlecry realised or mabey even the wolf squadron.

Try www.hlj.com (or www.hobbylinkjapan.com).  They usually have alot of Macross stuff.

BTW...keyword Macross instead of Robotech since its called Macross in Japan.
