1957 Revell "Moon Ship"
Posted by flippersdad on Sunday, April 8, 2007 9:36 PM

Hello all,

I recently acquired a Revell Moon Ship kit from 1957 and I am wondering if anyone on this forum can tell me anything about it. It is a neat old kit. If you want to see it here is the address,

It's the last stage of the Revell XSL-01, and was designed by Ellwyn Angle- It's a sharp looking little kit that hasn't been re-issued since the "Space Pursuit" boxing in the late 1960's.  There's some more information at:

Box art, plans, and mission profile booklet for the XSL are at:

And for the Moonship at:

Hope this helps,

Andrew

Interesting... I got this ship (complete with moon stand) in a box of "scrap" built aircraft models at a collector's fair last year (paid £2 for the lot). Ever since, I've been trying to identify it, with no success until now!

My "Moon Ship" is built up and painted, with no box and instructions, but appears to be complete, including the crew. Do you think it's worth anything in this state? If not, it'll make an interesting shelf display piece!

Thanks for your post. I believe that your Moon Ship is worth something even though it is built up, that is as long as it is complete. I sold my kit on eBay and when I sold it I had only reprinted instructions and decals. Tom Graham's Revell price guide places the value between 150 and 180 USD, and I have seen a complete kit being offered for 350 - a little pricey for me though. If you are not attached to it try putting it up for auction and you might get a pleasant surprise.
