Fine Molds 1/72 Y-Wing announced!
Posted by J-Hulk on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 9:48 PM
And it's about time!!
This month's Scale Aviation Magazine features a big scoop on Fine Mold's new 1/72 Y-Wing, including a nice test shot. An "official" announcement will be made at this year's Shizuoka Hobby Show in May, with a summer release planned. The April 25 issue of Model Graphix will also have a big spread on the new kit.

Great news for Star Wars fans!

Why is it OK for some to announce new kits, but it;s not OK for others? Sorry, I just don't get the double standard???? Chris, if you have a question, please e-mail me, not my associates. Thanks.Big Smile [:D]

Probably because I'm simply putting the info out there; I'm not personally selling an item that I'm producing myself. It's a Fine Molds Y-Wing, and I thought maybe, juuust maybe, people in the sci-fi modeling community would like to hear about it. I removed the link to HLJ, if that's what was causing you to cry "double standard" ...although HLJ is actually an advertiser in FSM, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Anyway, if you have a beef with my post, please take it to the moderators. If they deem it unsuitable for the FSM forums, then so be it.

And what exactly does Chris (Who is that? FSM member "Chris in Japan," I presume? Hi, Chris! Enjoy the Sakura this year?) and your "associates" have to do with any of this? Sorry, no, don't answer that...and please don't drag your personal agenda into this thread.

But thanks for posting anyway, hey? It was getting kinda lonely in here...

And might you have a comment about the new Y-Wing? Yes? No?

Yes, I do have a comment about the Y-Wing. If it's accurate, I'd very much like to see pitures of it, however, I don't think I'll purchase one. I prefer the joy of creating things myself and keeping the money in my wallet. As for the agenda, there is none. Not trying to highjack your thread, please don't take it that way. Finemolds does some fine work, but as I stated, I prefer the challenge of creating my own.

Fair enough. And you certainly do fantastic work, there's no doubt about that. Very impressive work, indeed. I just didn't want this thread taking a turn towards the controversial, which is where your first reply was definitely taking it. Thanks for bringing it back on topic.

There were some authorized pix of the new FM Y-Wing up on the HLJ site for a brief time, but they took them down out of consideration for some unforeseen domestic Japanese magazine release scheduling. They should be up again soon.

Great news for Sci-Fi fans.  I have the 1/72 Fine Molds Tie Fighter in my stash.  Looks like a great little kit.

Thanks for the heads up since one of the values of any forum is bringing attention to new releases of interest, possibly controversy aside, of course.Wink [;)]

This is one I'm definitely looking forward to, as well.  If you go w/the 16m length, that'll give us a kit that's 8.75" / 22.22cm long.  Pretty darned decent sized, IMNSHO.

As far as I know, the X-Wing is still available, too.  I've seen them at a number of online retailers, as well as at the Local Hobby Shop fairly recently.  It's a nice kit, too.  I've got one (unbuilt), but have seen a number of them builtup.

Sounds like great news to me Thumbs Up [tup].  I have the Fine Molds X-Wing that the kids got me for a Christmas present last year and it's a fantastic little kit.

I cannot wait to add a Y-Wing to the collection.

Cheers

Yeah, that's what I was wondering, too... Better ask the author of that reply. In a PM, if possible.

Anyway, what do you make of the new Fine Molds Y-Wing?

EDIT: I just learned that the Japanese retail price is going to be 3,400 yen, or about USD $28.33. Not bad! Slated for a July release.

Chris, if you're reading this, are you planning on coming up for the Shizuoka Hobby Show next month? It'd be great to meet you!

Hi Brian. Honami was fast this year.. Although today has been cool again. I need some heat..

As for the Y-WIng. I havnt been checking the boards much, so yesterday was the first time I found out about it.. ¥3000 for the kit is dearer than the others, but thats to be expected I guess..I built a 1/48 resin version last year, but I will probably collect them all again in 1/72 and build them at a later stage..

Cheers, Chris

I was just re-reading this thread.. And I have to ask....Could you please explain this to me?  I dont know who this Kirktrek guy is, and I would like to know why you have classed me as one of his associates?

Please re-read it again, Chris. I didn't classify you as one of his "associates" at all. He had written, "Chris, if you have a question, please e-mail me, not my associates. Thanks." Maybe he was calling me Chris? Who knows? And who are his "associates" that he doesn't want "Chris" emailing? All very cryptic, and all things I didn't want dragged into this thread unnecessarily.

I assumed since you are the only Chris I know of who posts regularly here and are a fine Trek modeller in your own right, that he MAY have been talking to you. Maybe not. Please note that I did clearly ask him "Who is that?" Assuming you'd read this, I added the friendly sakura question in parenthesis. I think you'd agree that presuming that the "Chris" he was talking about could have been you is not an unreasonable conclusion to reach, what with the Trek connection and all.

So, I hope you can clearly see that I did NOT classify you (or whatever "Chris" he was referring to) as one of his "associates." I had asked "What exactly does Chris and your associates have to do with any of this?" The "and your associates" part clearly referred to Kirktrek's associates, not including you as one of them at all. Perhaps the bit in parenthesis muddled it up a bit.

Anyway, the only person who knows what "Chris" Kirktrek was talking to in his reply is Kirktrek himself. Maybe he'll chime in and let us know.

I hope that clears it up for you, Chris. My apologies for any confusion.

Also, please check your PM.

Cool, glad you're not steamed! Again, sorry to inadvertantly drag you into whatever that was. Precisely the kind of controversy I was trying to avoid in this thread from the first reply.

And speaking of Y-Wings, apparently Revell o' Germany has test shots of their 1/72 Y-Wing out...I saw the box art at the big toy show in Nurnberg last February, but they didn't have a test shot ready then. The Revell kit is simple, but it doesn't look bad at all! It's a snap-together, pre-painted kit with some movable features (canopy). Don't know the price.
It's raining Y-Wings!

Yeah, no problem.. I am not steamed.. The guy is in another thread wondering why he isnt allowed to advertise selling his project here, as he feels that he is being singled out.. Tried to tell him that no one can advertise here.. But the mods edited it.. I would say its raining mods lately.. Have had alot of people tell me that alot has happened since I was on my self imposed exile..Alot of bannings ect...

Anyways, yes, its funny about the Y-Wing.. Its only about 30 years too late, and strange that it took 30 years for people to plead for one, that we actually get it.. If you look at some of the Star Wars crap that is for sale, you wonder what these marketing guys are smoking at times?

I have a built up resin 1/48 Y-Wing, and I have also done the X-Wing and Tie Fighter.. But I plan on re collecting them all in 1/72 again also to take back with me when we leave Japan..

I have the Jango Fett Slave 1 sitting in a box waiting to be built, and all of the 1/72 X-Wings and Tie Fighters I built, I sold to collectors.. So I would like to get all theFine Molds ones again.. I think I will stick to the amt Millenium falcon and customise that instead of getting the FM one though.. Already have all the parts, so no point getting it.. In other projects, I will be scratchbuilding a 1/48 Vader Tie Advance.. Now thats the one I would expect Fine Molds to do next..
