I usually build aircraft but there are two AMT kits I was thinking of picking up, could anybody give me a quick run down of the quality detail and fit of the AMT enterprise TNG and TOS kits? Thanks in advance

I have built just about everything in the ST catalog from AMT. Do not expect Acamiyagawa quality/ fit from these kits.  While they can be built up to look quite nice, you'll be using your modeling skills and sheet plastic to make them look better than OOB.

I had a ton of fun painting Aztec patterns by hand, then they came out with templates!!!! LOL.

Are you looking to build the original boxing 1701 model or the refit enteriprise, as well as the  D?

Make sure you add some ballast where the stand is. My Reliant always wants to flip onto its nose, my Voyager just wont sit right, and well the Kazon, that thing is so nose heavy it makes Jamie Farr look like a anime chick :)

If you're thinking of building the TOS Enterprise, you should consider picking up the Polar Lights version.  Not only is it far superior in it's shapes & dimentions, it has options to build the four different versions that appeared in the series!  While the scale is smaller than the 18" AMT kit (about 11") it's actually a fun little kit.  Don't let the "snap" on the box fool you, it was engineered that way but is easily adaptable to needing glue & all the other advanced goodies to make a nice smooth hull.  It's also in scale with the AMT USS Excelsior (another good build) & the Enterprise-B kits.  I've purchased about a dozen of the kits for all the versions & kitbashes & have never been disappointed.
