Assuming that amt's x-wing is in 1/48, how large would a star destroyer in the same scale turn out?

Looks like an interesting site, but it is not happening  on dial-up.  I'll have to check it out later.

I'll save you the trouble : according to that website the Imperial Class SD is 1.6 km long

for comparison the Executer Class (I think?) SSD is 19.0 km

WHEW !!! that's BIG !

this site also talks about alternate lenghts and theories (linked from site above)

Provided the given dimensions of a ISD are good, a 1:48 ISD would be 109.36133 feet, or roughly the length of a football field.

An american football field is 100 yards or 300 feet, not 100 feet.

Right... what he said.

Feet, yards... the sports I watch the measure in miles or klicks.

Anyways, BIG.

CenterDeck,

If you can get your hands on one of the sketchbooks made from the Star Wars movies it shows a great comparison.  If you look at the first three movies, Episode 4 - 6, it shows the Rebel Blockade Runner to be a quarter or less the length of a Star Destroyer when it is taken inside a Star Destroyer at the beginning of the movie.  In Episode 6, they show x-wing flying by another Blockade Runner class starsghip and it looks a little less than half the length of a Blockade Runner.  Now taking the comparisons, an x-wing to a Star Destroyer is like a tricylce being on an aircraft carrier (Nimitz Class).  This is a rough comparison but it works for visuals.
