Hey sawdeanz go to my website (the "www" icon in my post) and check out my diorama Im working on. Ian posted a cool technique with pics for doing explosions there. Also try using stuffing from old stuffed toys and stuff like that. Airbrush it and attach. It looks pretty good and is still kind of transparent. Ian's method is really great for an initial explosion though, thick billowing smoke and debris shooting outwards.

How did they do the explosions? I have been thinking of doing explosions in one of my dios, and the ones in the halo dio are the only convincing ones i have seen on a dio. Most likey they had unlimited resources, and I'll most likely have to come up with a different way. I'll post when i figure out something

Excuse me -GASP- did you say those figs are 1/12 scale!

Good grief!! The final results are amazing....

No, I don't play Halo or X Box, but I do admire the dio!!!

I agree the figures are pretty realistic. Very well sculpted and painted.

Unfortunately I dont have a 360 or else I would play. And right now all my money is going towards a new body because my bass guitar hit the deck. So Im broke, maybe boxing week Ill get one though.

Those are some of the most realistic figures I've seen. I want to see the dio in person, that would be awesome.

I made a widescreen wallpaper out of that last image.  I had to run some filters on it to reduce the graininess. When you view it, make sure it's not being reduced to fit your browser. Here it is:

Hey guys, not out to steal Deputy_Brads post, but i thought i would post somes pics of the diorama. Hope you don't mind DB.

If you think some of these pics are good, do yourself a favour and go to the website that was in DB's original post. Keep in mind this diorama is huge. The marines in this dio are somewhere around 1/12 scale!!!

  Enjoy.........

Pics? Click the link and enter birthdate and stuff and go to the picture of master chiefs head, it looks like a model figure. Then follow that and its like a walkthrough of the dio, pretty cool stuff. To get a better look though check out some of the movies along the way or at the bottom of the screen.

What about Pac-Man but that wouldn't make much of a diorama.

The pics didn't come up, have they been taken down?

Id really like to priest, but I have neither Halo 3 nor a 360. If you can wait till boxing day though I may be picking one up and a copy and getting online. We should definately play though, Ill keep it touch.

The scale looks to be about 6-12" figures I dunno. Based on the little movies at the bottom (making of, really interesting) it looks larger than 6 and smaller than 12 though. I started my own diorama and while its not Halo themed it is fairly sci-fi. I am using some modern German Panzergrenadiers from Revell and setting them in an urban environment similar to the one in the Halo dio. I think Ill paint them an urban or dull drab camo though instead of the BW flecktarn.

BTW I am SUPER tired. Turns out my friend has a 360 and Halo 3. We've been playing the first third of the game for the last 4 hours tonight. Video games really do turn your brain to mush lol. It's 2:15 am and I am ready to hit the sack.

P.S. Boomer you are absolutely right. BTW its not really a trilogy if you count Halo Wars (Command and Conquer, Halo style)

That is a cool dio. I am inspired to do a sci-fi one i have had in mind for a while now. The thing i like about sci-fi is that your imagination is the limit. You can build whatever you want and nobody can tell you it is wrong!!....

I got a 360 with my tax money plus about 50 kits.  HALO 3 is going to wait though. 70.00 I can spend on a kit!
In space, no one can hear you scream. Except the people on the ship with you. Oh, and the Alien.

Lol I know what you mean. I just cant bring myself to spending $600 right now, saving for a vehicle.

More on topic about my original post though, that diorama is pretty spectacular. The smoke effects and just the scale of it are something. Also the explosive fire and just the feeling that the whole battle was paused for a second. The faces of the human soldiers are very convincing and well portrayed. The diorama is easier to view maybe for some if you watch the video at the bottom menu links. There are a few videos and even a "making-of" video showing some progress of the dio.

Sorry Im still really stoked on this combination of two favourite things of mine PLUS THE RELEASE OF HALO 3!!!!!!!

Pretty cool.  My kids have been bugging me for a Xbox 360 + Halo 3- (forget it guys - it aint gonna happen !)  I've weaned myself off Xbox to a large extent - more time for modelling.

Hey I went to www.halo3.com and found this sweet walk through thing of a giant diorama. Even if you dont like halo check it out.

Heres a link http://halo3.com/believe/shell.html

Oh BTW you just need to enter your birthdate and click on the middle picture, scroll through it and make sure to check out the video link on the bottom. It has a making of video which is pretty cool, very interesting dio too. Im a big Halo fan, and I also really like modelling and I always wished someone would produce some Halo related models, but this is like OUT OF THIS WORLD.

I wish I had a 360, gonna be waiting till boxing day.
