Originally I had put aside some Krylon Concrete Gray and Pewter Gray spraycans for the finish coats (also very similar to Wallyworld Equipment Grey Primer, which I used for some of the base-coats - overspray with Krylon clears and you have a match with the first two colors).  The grey part of the scheme is Duplicolor Metallic Pewter, so while it was meant to represent the grey-striration armor skinned from the DM, I didn't stray that much from the overall TOS color-scheme.

Orne,

I really like the colors you chose for your build.  Different yet sleek :)

Lord Darth, thanx, but don't discount your talents. Five years ago, scratchbuilding the E at this scale was something I wouldn't have attempted.  (Except for the brass-screen and tiny detail pieces made from Evergreen strips, everything down to the intercooler-loops was carved from poplar or basswood.)  But you start thinking through various techniques, put aside some time to really work everything out, and just go for broke.

Orne, THAT is what I picture in my mind when I think of the Enterprise.  Of course, Chris' Big E is no slouch either!  I just hope to do something half as beautiful!

Gorgeous builds, gents!  I raise my bottle of Tamiya Extra Thin to you!Big Smile [:D]

Links to the main photo-pages the last two were in, but just plain background, no SFX -

If look in the closeups, you can find "Ensign Ricky" and a few other crew-members behind the windows, and the top of the 'ship-wheel' in the center window just below the bridge.

Photos on first page most recent; still working on the model off and on, little things to improve appearance.

And they're well deserved comments on you buildup, Orne.  I like your take on a Pre-TMP Enterprise, as it were.

Where pics are concerned, I personally prefer to see the "raw" images.  All those added effects are nice, but it's hard to see the model itself when they're added.

Nothing against Koerner's design, just a different take, I was really holding back from going too far down the 're-imagined' route despite how easy it would've been to go all out; from what I've read about the Nuremburg Toy Show debut of the new movie diecast, I may have come closer than I first thought.  I kept all the additional improvements within what was possible to upgrade the Enterprise if TOS had gone the full five years, i.e. The Doomsday Machine armor and the Warp 11 engine - even without the latter, the E had several times gone to that limit with the help of Nomad or marauding aliens.

Thanx for all the kind comments.

It definitely has an "Star Trek: Enterprise" look to it.  The colors make it a good progression from the NX-01 ship.

I like Orne's build up very much, it has that re-imagined/high tech look to it, I love the color choices. In fact when I first saw it, I thought it was a scratchbuild of Gabe's Enterprise. Very nice work.

A few pictures, the first is a composite completed by a friend utilizing one of my photos.....

http://groups.msn.com/InfinityReach/ussenterprise.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1197

Second one just having a bit of fun, the Starfighter chase scene from TOS (the F-104C is the 1/18 diecast model from 21st Century Toys)

http://groups.msn.com/InfinityReach/ussenterprise.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1223

Didn't do such a great job with the impulse and afterburner effects, going to rework it later, add burner shockwaves and heat blurring, etc.....

Yes, it's a thread about a model, not individuals.  Obviously Orne didn't have a problem w/your model being shown here, Chris.   I think they compliment each other rather well.

I swear I saw this model posted here over a year ago...... I must be confused. Jeez, I still didn't get that answer to exactly what I had done. Am I getting old, or is something else going on?

Thanks guys.. I am sure they do have contests around here.. But I am not into all that stuff.. Actually, we are heading back to Aus in August, so maybe once we are settled. I may be able to go through a few things and see what I have.. Will have the extra space then..

That's great news, Chris.  There are some awesome fellas Down Under and I've had the privilige of meeting a few of them at Past WonderFests.  Brian "BuzzBomb" Thewlis and his lovely wife immediately come to mind.  Great folks!

Now, if we could just get Orne to come back and update his thread....  Smile [:)]

Definitely is a contest piece, Chris.  Nothing in your area in which to enter?

By the way Chris...

That is the best looking 22" Enterprise I've seen in these Forums recently.

Great work on conquering the subtle appearance of the dreaded "Aztek" pattern.

Well done!

Thanks guys appreciate it.. It was alot of fun to do something a little outside the box so to speak and not be restricted.. I guess the new movie has started to garner interest in the subject again..
