The exterior piping was replaced and the landing gear, cockpit, and nose scanner was scratch built.

Looks great.  I like the subtle weathering. Which kit is it?

That's the Monogram kit.  I opened the windows, added a cockpit, added the nose scanner, repalced all the exterior pipes, and built the landing gear from scratch builg the old Battlestar blueprints as a guide.  The problems started when I went to do the other side of the gear and discovered that the left and right are not the same, so I picked one and re-worked the other side to match.

Great build!  Can you give me some hints on how you did the cockpit?  I'm going to start building a Viper as soon as my Raiders are finished.  I really dislike the closed solid plastic canopy that comes with the kit.

Great job! You have a right to be proud of that beauty.

Very nice work indeed. Are they ever going to repop these? Wasn't the date moved up? Looking forward to getting one of these when they do.

Tower Hobbies lists a release date of Late Feb I believe for the Viper, Cylon raider, and Cylon Basestar from TOS.

Now THAT's a Viper!

is this the old kit that had the firing missile from the nose (Original issue did) or the more current repop that did away with that? I had both the Cylon and the Viper kits.....man they were fun!

It's one of the old ones.  I was looking at a book that I bought when the series was running in the 70s called "Encyclpedia Galactica" and notice that three was a cloth like substance in the nose to represent the sensor array.  I went through my spares and noticed that the old covers they used to put on portable ear phones looked like the same thing.  I cut up an old one and glued it in...close enough.

All the external plumbing and parts betweent the engines and at the rear were cut off and replaced with heavy or thin wire and small pieces of plastic.

And yet another awesome lookin' BSG buildup!  The old Viper is my favorite, I think.  I like the TNS Mk II Viper just as much, but the TOS Viper will always have that special place in my heart.

Oooo!  Something that just occured to me that I think would be kewel.  You should get the Scarlet Viper conversion kit and do one up!  With your skills it'd be a sight to behold.  Thumbs Up [tup]

Last time I checked the Scarlet kit was sold out.  I am looking for a kit of the two seat Viper from 1980.

John/MMI mentioned he's going to re-mold the Scarlet Viper kits, too.  I'm seriously considering getting a conversion kit just to have something different.  I just wish there was a 1/72 Scarlet Viper kit or conversion kit.

Nice find on the pic!  Where'd you get it?  Looks to have possibly come from an Airman magazine?!?  Big Smile [:D]

It sure did.  I grabbed a copy while I was at Littlerock before I left for Kadena.  I know somwone made a twin seat viper but don't remember who it was.
