BSG Vipers MK I, II, VII
Posted by ssgkopp on Saturday, December 15, 2007 7:39 PM
Well after a 7 month vacation in the wonderful middle east i finally get to make some models.

So i started to hit the stash with the easy ones

I did the 1/ 72 Viper MK I, II and VI and i threw in the FP A-wing in for fun. All great little kits and easy builds. No real issues with the castings at all. Have a couple things to fix after hitting them with some primer but hopefully this week I can hit them with some paint. Have yet to figure out the paint schemes but i dought i will do them canon.

As a side note this is the first time i used Mr Surfacer 1200 in a rattle can and have to say i love it. Also again I love black CA its the best stuff out there. Ill have more pics soon as i start the paint and weather process.

Great Start!

I definately love all of them from what you have done.. Where did you get the 3 Vipers in 1/72. Definately interested in those bad boys..

Cant wait to see more of how they turn out..

Cheers, Chris

ps: How close in scale is the 1/72 TOS Viper compared to the Joyride Viper?

On the bench:

                          1/48 RAAF 3 Sqn F/A-18B

                          1/150 /1/160 N Scale Japanese Rail diorama.

Thx Chris

I got all three at starship modeler.  I know they have the MK II and VI in stock.  The MK I came out a couple weeks ago and went fast..  Also they have a 1/72 Raptor coming along soon.

The scale looks good to me.  Know i will admit that when i opened the MK I box i thought no way its really small but it fills out with th eengines and the wings.  And the A-wing looks perfect next to them.

Well got my thinners and some new paints also. Have been doing some work on these guys and I am almost done. The kits all built up nicely. The Mk I i used a mixture of Vallejo Model Air light and medium grey for the base coat on top of Mr Resin spray primer and a Vallejo Model Air Black grey preshading then put in some darker grey molting spots.

The MK II main color is a Vallejo Model Air black grey with MM Metalizer stainless steel and exhaust for some parts

The Mk VII was painted using MM Azure blue and Dark Sea Grey in a free had camo

All the canopies are drying from a Future bath and will be cut and shape tommorrow. All the models have been washed and two need dullcoats then pastel weathering.

I will get better pics this weekend once all is finished and ready to go.

Love the Vipers, dude. Didn't know the BSG New Series ships were out. I finished Monster in Motions 1:1 studio scale Viper a few months back. My wife bought it while I was stationed in the "Great Sand Box" for 18 months. Best Christmas present I ever had in my old age. Also, it makes for great therapy for PTSD.

Keep up the work. I would like to see more. So say we all.

Awww...they so little... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

The details look great for such small scale models. Are they resin or plastic?

I heard Revell was rereleasing the OLD kits w/ some new modifications. I was planning on getting one or two of those, but w/ limited shelf space in my house, these kits might be a better buy. Are they very expensive?

I like the black one... Cool [8D]

BTW...Welcome back guys. It's good to have you home. Make a Toast [#toast]

these are resin kits.  I got them from Starshipmodeler.  They are close to 50 bucks each but i think its worth it.  I have two MK VIIs and im looking to get another MK I.  I would take a pic but my camera is dead.

They're already out- the Viper, Raider & the Cylon Basestar.  From what I remember, the Viper & Raider have mods.  Both have a new stand & clear engine parts.  The Viper has a cockpit & pilot.

That MkII pilot is about to have an A-Wing fly up his turbothrustersBig Smile [:D]

I just came back from the LHS with a new Viper and Raider repop.

I like how Revell took the extra step to add things to these kits. I have several of the original releases and several more of the late 90's repops. I would not have bought these if not for the enhancements. Revell used it's brains to get us to buy them again! Took a page out of Geo. Lucas' playbook.

I remember buying my original Vipers/Raiders in 1979 for 5.00 each! Then bought more in 1998 for 14.00 each and today I paid 21.95 each. I wonder how much I will pay for the next re-re-release? LOL!!!!

I'm looking forward to getting a set, but even on line they're far more expensive than I thought they would be. I remember paying $5.00-$6.00 a piece as well. Doh! Inflation.

Well done! I particularly like that original Viper, I really have not seen any other build-ups of this particular model.

Ill get more Pics then. I really like how the MK 1 came out.  I kinda molted the darker grey and it gives it a good look.

The two MK VIIs have two different paint schemes. The Promethous one has a free hand camo of Navy Blue gray and Azure blue, th eGalatica one mixes the two colors.  They are weathered diffrently also. Also i have to finish the MK VII cockpit and redo the canopy on the Galactic bird. I added a pic of my 1/72 Awing to show size comparison between the two show/movie.

Arrggh! I just got a package today. $240 worth of model kits and supplies. What does that have to do w/ anything?

I've spent my model building allowance until June! There's no room in the budget for the new kits!

Please. I'm begging' y'all. Leave a Viper and a Raider on the shelves for this SF junkie.

Huh? What? Who?

Ahem. <Serious voice>

Cool models dude. Nice variety.

To add depth to my paint schemes I post shade my spaceship models by airbrushing a slightly darker color in the recesses, panel lines, etc. These look small, and difficult to airbrush that way. What did you use to add depth to the color?

Are the canopies styrene or resin?
