Space 1999 MK IX Hawk
Posted by terry35 on Saturday, March 22, 2008 4:31 PM

Started back on my big resin kit of this subject. It's about 22inches long, resin and weighs a ton, literally.

Here we go.

got this booster mounted the other night.

Replacing missing detail with plasticard.

Scratchbuilt nose cone, it was missing in the kit.

Todays sanding released these parts from their carriers.

Thanks for looking,

Regards,

Terry Burke.

Nice Terry, Nice!

Will look great with the big Eagle and strap-on lab pod mods next door to it!

You know, in some ways, I'm inclined to think that my scratchbuilt Studio Size (32") Hawk was easier than faffing around with Resin:

Wow, Colin M Taylor, thanks for even replying, I've been using your article in Sci- Fi fantasy the Space 1999 special as reference, great build, it was great piece of work. I've been a fan of that build for a long time.

Regards,

Terry.

Just Colin, Please.
I'm flattered.

One tip: Work out how you're going to display it since that can affect the basic construction.

Thanks Colin, have worked out the display, done it years ago when i started. I going to mount it on a long base, about 25 inches long. I'm going to mount the hawk to the base then make the whole thing wall mountable.

I've been filling gaps for a couple of days now, it's a real pain. Because the parts are puddlecast they do not form proper round parts. I had to shim these problems with plasticard. This I super glued to the resin on each side, then glued shims until the parts looked proper round, then glued together. it then took alot of filing and sanding.

heres a few shots they are also over on eagletranspoter.com

Thanks for looking,

Regards,

Terry Burke.

Yes Colin scratchbuilding was easier, and probably cheaper and quicker in the long run.

I noticed from your article that you spent about £200 give or take, I spent £250 on a box of crap.

Regards,

Terry.

You need to take the word "licensed" out of your search query.

Nope! Licensed is right. These kits must be licensed, or they are stealing of intellectual property. He's right

I've always been a closet fan of Space:1999, but always enjoy a good buildup.  You're doing an awesome job on this one.  What manufacturer is this from?

"He's" right,...???

Why do you refere to Adama 47 as "He" in this thread but in the Klingon D7 Decal thread you refere to him as yourself???

Are you having difficulty remembering who you are?

Griffworks, it was manufactured by AB models a couple of years ago, only about 25 were built or there abouts. As far as I know it was licensed.

Kewel, I was just curious about the manufacturer.

Personally, I don't much care of it's a licensed kit or not.  The majority of the GKM kits that have been made aren't licensed.  Most of us don't have the capability to do a decent job of scratchbuilding those things we'd most like, so rely on someone else to give us a nice replica.  We wouldn't have anywhere nearly as many kewel models to look at here if it weren't for "illegal" resin kits - to include conversion or accurizing pieces/parts.

I thought that was the AB kit. Always liked that ship. Looking forward to seeing more.

Diito what Griff said. There would be no hobby - period.
