Update :

Added some explosions to the Zaku, finished the Guncannon, and almost ready to add some water.

Another quick update so you can see where I am at with the Zaku :

It's partly weathered now. I just have to finish off the chips and melted parts and then I can move onto the Guncannon.

I got this one from hobby search (www.1999.co.jp/eng) for next to nothing. They are only worth using as test subjects or destroying as I'm doing. Seams are a nightmare too.

I like to work with 1/144 scale for diorama since the end result is much more compact and easy to display. Last time I made 1/100 it's been since dismantled and stored/parts used since I had no space to put the thing on. Mind you even at 1/144 the whole thing can be big~

When I work with 1/144 kit I usually distch the joint ormodify since being diorama the pose wil be locked. I also like where this project is going and ahve been watching with the anticipation... ^ ^

it looks like you are coming along with your build. Where did you get the no grade kits?  are they wroth it? I have given up on HG kits due to all the filling and puttying/ sanding.  I am working on one of two Zakus now for a new scene to go to the Nationals with in August.  I am inflicting a fair amount of wear and tear to my units, and my shield sure looks a lot like yours now.

I've been working on this project lately, a Guncannon vs Zaku II diorama :

http://www.ghostofzeon.com/wip/gcan/guncanwip.html

Basically it's a battle scene where the Guncannon is kicking Zaku butt. I'm building it for a group build over at Modelgeeks.com.

Any thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome.
