Fletcher Class Destroyers
Posted by radartec on Friday, August 8, 2008 4:41 AM

I am working on a series of 4 builds for the USS INGERSOLL DD652.Starting with 1943,1945,1955 and 1965. This is a square bridge type. Right now I'm looking for the antenna rigging for '43 model. I think I have the radar set, but need the layout for all he radio antennas and interconning cables.(stacks to main mast,etc...) Looking forward, what do I need for the tripod mast ?

I'm sure I'll be looking for alot more help as things progress.

As a side note, I just got back into modeling after 50 or so years and did a few airplanes to see how it went,so it will take me a while to get the hang of things.

There are good detailed drawings based on different rigs and different time periods in "The Anatomy of the Ship - The Destroyer The Sullivans", by Al Ross, 1988, still in print, I think, and "Fletcher Class Destroyers" by Alan Raven, 1986, no longer in print,  Also a plans booklet from The Floating Drydock that is now sold on CD, I believe, which I seem to recall only gives drawings from WWII.

You didn't mention what scale you are building your models in.

The scale is 1/350 and I have been attending the field days in the USS THE SULLIVANS for over 10 years now and will be going to Buffalo this week to work on her.
