Im making a model of Penselvania. I cant find any info on the colour of the propellor shafts and the kit instructions say paint them red. Ive seen pics of ships eg IJN Kongo with metal coloured shafts.. any advice appreciated.

I do believe that they are well red.

They're red... you don't want them to foul either.

The red paint used on ship's bottoms isn't just to look pretty.  It contains lead and other stuff which is poisonous to the barnacles, algae, and "slime" which fouls a hull bottom.

To say that a hull is fouled, it has developed growths which have slowed down the efficient movement through the water

That and a fouled propeller shaft can cause catastrophic damage to the gears.
