The best match is the White Ensign Colourcoats Norfolk 65A Hull Red.   Colourcoats are enamel paints and are accurately matched to the period paint specifications.  They are great paints for the modeler.  This color would be applicable for the US Navy for all periods, from pre-WWII to the current day.

Tamiya XF-9 is IJN Hull Brown.   It is wrong for the US Navy color of the period.  Of course it would be correct for the Yamato,  but that is a different subject.

Tamiya's spray lacquer TS-33 looks to be pretty close to the desired color.

Another option is to use PollyScale Mineral Red from their model railroad line of colors.

Hi fellows

I would like to know the color used below the water line in this ship.  Tamiya or another manufacturer have this color avalilable?  All american war ships during WII used this same color?

Thanks very much
