Question About What Scale Guns To Use On A 1:300 Scale Kit
Posted by PTConsultingNHR on Saturday, September 20, 2008 9:56 AM
Hello All,

I have a question.

I am getting the Revell 1:300 scale USCGC ROGER B. TANEY kit and the GMM 1:300 scale PE fret from Keith Bender any day now.

As all of you know, no one makes after-market fittings for 1:300. I'd like to have the model finished as the USCGC CAMPBELL as she appeared in early to mid-1944. That was before her conversion to an AGC.

Where can I find suitable AA weaponry that would fit a 1:300 kit. Bob Cicconi and Jacques from L'ARSENAL both have told me that they would not put 1:350 stuff on it and whereas Bob has also told me that 1:285 stuff (from HR Products) would not fit the model either ... so, I'm kinda stuck.

What can I do?

Go with the 285th.  It is only 5% larger, while the 350 is 17% too small

For those of you who slept through high school math:

(300 - 285) / 300 := 0.05 (large)

or

(300 - 350) / 300 := -0.1667 (small)

The choice is up to you.  As a matter of personal choice, I do not mix scales differences in excess of 10%.   The difference can be visually jarring.   Even then, something which is 10% large may just appear wrong.   I tried to put 1:144 scale Oerlikons on a 1:160 scale PC and they just didn't look right.

Thanks Ed ...

I'd like to, and if I was building it myself ... I would.

someone told me once, while I was arguing with a client over details of a build;

"The customer may not always be right, but he is always the customer."

HA!  That's right Ed, but do you know what Ed?  I don't mind at all.

Bob does EXCELLENT work; his conversion of my Uncle's build of the LIONFISH to the ICEFISH was simply amazing!

His U-84 for me won third in its class at the Nats this year ...

So, I'd gladly defer to his expertise ...

But ya know?  Somebody SHOULD produce guns in 1:300 ...

I found this old thread while searching for the same reason-- looking to find weapons to use on the Revell 1/300 Taney kit.

I fear things have gotten worse, in terms of availability.   A search for 1/300 scale stuff still comes up empty.   Also,  I don't see any 1/285 stuff listed on H-R Products' website--  the closest scale I see listed there is 1/256.

Anyone know of any other sources for 1/300 weapons, etc?
