Lookin for some info on a kit.

Thanks Baron.  I dont plan on rushing through the kit or anything.  Im building it for fun, like all my stuff.  I probably wont get to even get this till christmas, so thats why im starting my research now.

Hi, smeagol, I'm with enemeink, you can make this kit into a nice model, but youll probably want to do a little research.

These Hasegawa kits are good one, they can be turned into decent models with little extra effort, or can be good starting points for some superdetailing.  I picked up a pair of Essexes at AMPS last year (the Essex and the Hancock), and I'm using them to practice some scratching and bashing, and for some painting and weathering techniques.

I think you'll also find that the skills we have can be turned to any modelling subject, whatever our preferences might be.

Thanks.  I really love the design of that thing, the 3 deck japanese carriers always intriegued me, and Bi planes are only a bonus.  Thanks for the help

i think that if you do a fair amount of research on this ship you should be able to turn out a pretty decent model. as long as you have the time and patience......

Ah well I should specifiy.  I have been modeling for maybe... gods how long has it been, feel like 1, more like... 3-4.  I started with gundam kits (see sci-fi section) moved from there to armor and scale figures(only built 2 but I catch on very quickly, waiting for time to build my third, gona get some am parts for it).  I have just started building aircraft, Im working on a 1/32nd Revell Zero at the moment.  And I have taken a few skirmishes into the world of scratch building.  Basicly naval vessels are the only thing I havent tried yet.

My painting skill isnt the best, but its FAR from the worst.  I know how to handle my brushes and my airbrush.

 So Im really asking about the quality of the kit, does everything fit together, are there and massive gaps in pieces (like the trumpeter panzer rail tank!).  That kind of thing?

Well, without knowing how much experience you have and in what part of the hobby that your experience is in it is hard to say if this is a good kit for you. Quality wise it is a very good kit and parts fit should be quite good, however, for ship first timers I would usually recommend a larger scale ship to start with like one of these 1/350 scale ships: Trumpeter England (WWII DE) or the new DML Buchanan (WWII DD) or the Tamiya Fletcher (also a WWII DD). Working with the tiny parts of a 1/700 kit and trying to paint and detail it can be off-putting for a beginner in ships. Some people just dive in with no problem, especially those who have worked with smaller scale aircraft and armor (1/72 and SMALLER that is). WS
